I listened to the 01/09/65 show this afternoon and think it is great. It seems like you must have tweaked the way you are picking extra songs - you found a few gems that I hadn't heard in years. Thanks, Joe.

Now that the Super Bowl is behind us you may want to listen to the latest Cash Box Countdown; it's from the week ending February 6, 1965. By the way, you may have noticed that the 'bonus songs' included in the show are now featuring some songs that never made the Cash Box Top 40. Check it out at: archive.org/details/011965020601And Thanks for listening, Joe

Listened to it a few days ago Joe and it was enjoyable as always.
The bottom half of the Top 40 seemed to be filled with artists that were from my mom & dad's era. If you think it was all British Invasion, Motown, and US pop & rock, the first hour sounds like it was taken from "Your Hit Parade".
Not that it's all bad...just interesting

If this were 1966 here is the countdown from Cash Box Magazine for the week ending March 5, 1966 (52 years ago) . One thing I always enjoyed about listening to AT40 was noticing that a few errors crept into the countdown--some were when the show was put together (wrong song played, wrong jingle used); and others were when Casey would say something wrong (give the wrong chart position or some info given to him to read was incorrect).
I thought it would be fun to leave two small mistakes in this show; although I know some errors crept into other countdowns I did (wrong info given due to bad research --or a faulty memory)--AND--incorrect dates given during the show and also wrong chart positions on certain songs. I don't actually 'script' the show but print out the given chart I use for a show and then jot down some notes next to each song (although I don't use all the info I write next to each song).
Here are the two mistakes in the show:
1)At#40 I say that the song by the Byrds is their 5th Top 40 hit (5th chart entry but only their 4th Top 40 hit)--
2)Check out what I say about song #15 and then song #7--which song is actually the fastest moving song on the countdown? Hmmm
If you catch any other errors let me know--

Enjoy the music,
Joe

Now that we are down to the Sweet 16, March Madness fans, let's take a break from non-stop college basketball and return to the Top 40 pop singles for the week ending March 21, 1964 from the Cash Box Magazine charts. Besides the Beatles, a few other foreign acts begin to invade the U.S. Top 40 Check out the countdown for yourself: archive.org/details/011964032101/01+1964032101.wmaJoe

Taxes are due here in the U.S. on Monday, April 17--but if we go back 51 years ago to 1967; these were the top selling singles from the Cash Box charts. 1967 is one of the best year's for pop music, in my opinion, and you can really hear it in the Summer of Love (June-September), but leading up to that time are a few gems among the pop singles that are on the Cash Box chart. archive.org/details/011967041501Thanks to all of you that regularly listen and for the feedback, Joe

Here's a countdown from exactly 50 years ago--the Top 40 hits for the week ending June 22, 1968--as taken from Cash Box Magazine-- archive.org/details/011968062201I recall growing up in Detroit that summer and hearing some of these hits on the radio as the city watched the Tigers (baseball team) put together a season that culminated in a World Series title (the first since 1945). Enjoy the show, Joe
