Did a quick preview of the tracks from the aforementioned 7/31/1993 show, and, yup, heard all four intro jingles in the second half. Same with 7/3/1993 - nice variety to start off the segments. That'd have been cool to sit in on one of those show recordings and production.

Listening to 3/22/97 where David Perry just welcomed me to “Casey’s Hot 40”... oops!

Just heard the part of the CT40 show from 7/23/1994, with David Perry introing a segment introducing himself as Casey Kasem.

I recently heard the 3/14/1998 show, as the Hot 20 Countdown. Sounds like, to me anyway, David Perry is exhausted/burned out. No enthusiasm at all; resonates like "I'm just here to do the countdown". He had been hosting for three weeks straight at that point, as Casey was away getting AT40's revival ready to launch.

For full disclosure I didn't like Mark Elliott as a guest host until David Perry showed up. But I think that's because of how often there was a guest hosted show in the CT40 days. If Westwood One signed Mark Elliott to be Casey's Top 40 occassional guest host from 1989 until 1993 when David Perry took over as occassional guest host after that, why didn't Westwood One hire 1980's AT40 frequent guest host Charlie Van Dyke as occassional CT40 guest host?

This was brought up before, albeit quite some time ago. It was likely due to CVD having other commitments, or possibly even not having an interest after ABC not giving him the gig. If that's the case, I don't blame him one bit.

I think what I have discovered over the many years of listening is that the Westwood One era itself is very bland and robotic. So it only makes sense that the David Perry shows are somewhat this way, because I feel even the regular Casey shows are to a degree. As much as AT40 with Ryan has improved this year, the guest hosted weeks are still not good. I don't mind any of the David Perry shows, and although he was not popular to some on here, I really like Ed McMann as guest host too, and the energy/delivery is similar. bland and robotic is a great way to put it - think that carried through when AT 40 returned. Casey basically said the same thing every week "we're just a hit a way from the # 1 song" is one example. Every week.

Hate to bump an old thread, but agree with what someone said earlier - in the later years CT40 (and the new AT40) became very robotic and repetitive. Listening to some of the earlier CT40 - the show still had some spontaneity and energy to it! Really felt like Casey enjoyed it versus just reading a script. I suspect once they started having to churn out 3 shows a week they have to be more scripted and keep the shows tighter.

While Casey is a joy to listen to from any year, I agree, the earlier years of CT40 were better for the reasons you mentioned.

Too bad current AT40 host Ryan Seacrest never has met up with David Perry.
