Have you noticed this year how Kelly Clarkson's hits always crack the top ten while another of her hits is still there, or at the same time it's falling out? Well the fact is since 'Breakaway' went top ten on the CHR/Mainstream pop chart in October 2004 and continuing through 'Since U Been Gone', 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and now 'Because Of You', our Ms. Clarkson has now been in the top ten for more than 52 consecutive weeks (over one full year). Quite impressive considering how rare it is to stay in the top 40 for one solid year, even on today's monitored chart. In fact, unless I missed somebody, I had to go back nearly a whole half century before I could find another example of this; at the beginning of Elvis Presley's chart career at the dawn of the Rock Era, the King's first six top ten singles (from 'Heartbreak Hotel' through 'Too Much') spent exactly 52 consecutive weeks on Bb's 'Best Sellers' chart (pre Hot 100), from March 1956 through March 1957. It's not everyday you find someone pulling off a chart feat that only Elvis did, much kudos to Kelly!

Well sure enough, I did miss one other act. Just like Elvis in the '50's, another act had a streak of exactly 52 straight weeks in the Top 10, but this band did it with only two songs! They hit the CHR/Mainstream Top 10 in June 1998 with 'Iris' and kept it there for 28 weeks, then at years end just as it fell out, 'Slide' took its place and stayed there for another 24 weeks (52 total) thru June 1999. So add the Goo Goo Dolls to the short list of acts to log at least a full year, non-stop, in the Top 10. Of course it's Kelly Clarkson as the only act over the twelve month mark.
