You know what would have been a good marathon for the iHeart Classic AT40 channel on April Fools Day? A marathon of selected guest hosted AT40 shows (Dick Clark, Gary Owens, Mark Elliott, Charlie Van Dyke, Hall and Oates, etc.).

They repeated the 3/24/73 show at 7:20 am this morning. And now they're repeating the 3/15/1986 show, with 4/2/1977 likely coming on next. ETA (12:43 PM): Now it's 4/2/1977 for the second time, hopefully the entire show this time. ETA (1:30 PM): Hour 2 of 4/2/1977 is starting now. ETA (3:05 PM): It's 4/7/1984 again, starting about three hours ahead of schedule (a 70's show is usually on at this time). ETA (6:14 PM): It's 3/24/1973 for the third time. The only new show that's aired just once is 3/30/1985. Will that one be next? Stay tuned.

It's 8:34 PM and we're at 3/15/1986 for the third time.
This clearly isn't going to be fixed any time soon, so my time monitoring this is done (especially since I've been doing this for 24 hours straight now). I'll check in again on Monday and hopefully we'll be back on track.

If you recall, in the initial weeks of the Classic AT40 channel, it was nothing more than a loop of the A shows from the current week. The end credits from Larry Morgan even mentioned checking out the channel if you missed any of the show for a very short period of time. It seems this may be a pattern again, at least for now.

Hopefully it's a sign that they're giving a station a makeover. My dream makeover for it is removing the 2 duplicate 80's shows and creating a bigger gap between back-to-back shows from the same year (i.e separating 5/7/1988 and 5/21/1988 by putting at least three 80's shows between them).

Not to mention taking out the year-end Top 50s - that is, assuming that they'll still be featuring the full Top 100 year-enders around certain holiday weekends.

So this iHeart Classic AT40 channel is cleaning house? And what is the status of the iHeart current AT40 Ryan Seacrest channel? A mix of recent and past year shows? Has that iHeart Ryan AT40 ever played Ryan Seacrest's first AT40 show from January 2004?

It has gotten an upgrade, though - enhanced stereo sound, and crossfading of segment with iHeart jingles. This also eliminated the commercials, and there's been no automation glitches since.

They started 3/15/1986 for probably the 8th or 9th time about 20 minutes ago.
One thing I don't get is why 3/30/1985 and 3/31/1979 (shows that aired on Premiere the last weekend of March) isn't part of the repeat cycle; 1985 has only aired once, while the last two hours of 1979 were repeated when 4/2/1977 aired for the first time with just the first hour.

This weekend's B show from the 80's (4-9-83) airing now. Update:After 4-9-83 they played this weeks 4-12-75. 4-11-81 is on now with hour two starting at 12:25 p.m. eastern time. This must be something new starting on Fridays. We'll wait and see what they play next, maybe 4-8-78? Would be good with me.

We'll wait and see what they play next, maybe 4-8-78? Would be good with me. I suspect that's going to be the case. I wonder what the eventual fate of this station is. Are they now going to permanently use the station as a way to replay the current week's shows or are they working on creating a whole new list of shows to replace the ones that have aired over and over again for years? ETA (2:52 PM): Just turned it on; they're now playing 4/8/1978 (at #38).

Update 4-13-22:At 3:55 p.m. eastern time they dumped out of 4-9-83 to go to early '77 with Mary MacGregor at #1. Now the 2nd half of the 1984 year end top 100 is playing as of 5:30 p.m. eastern.
