"Million Dollar Baby" was the most shazamed hit of the week according to Ryan who is spot on when he also said 'this one has heat'. Short song about the same length as "Greedy" which follows it in the countdown. Let's see if it reaches #1 which Tate did with her song. Does not look like Taylor Swift will be getting her record tying 15th #1 as "Fortnight" holds at 6. Ariana Grande was somewhat fortunate to get her 10th #1 sneaking in for a week before getting bounced to 3 while SZA makes a 4-1 move to the top. Shinedown is the only group in the countdown. That's wild! Thought no debut shows were rare but I thought no group shows were even rarer. But that may have changed over the years.

Yeah, these days, it's rare for a song to drop out of the top 3 when vacating #1. That's a pretty hard fall for Taylor. We'd have to go back quite a ways to find the last #1 to drop out of the top 3. The charts don't move anywhere near like they did back in the day. It happens a bit more often on the country charts, however. And once in a great while, a song will fall out of the top 10. In fact, recently, a #1 fell down to #21. Definitely in country. There was one song on Bobby Bones show that fell from #1 to #17 a few years back. I believe the all-time record in R&R/Mediabase CHR for the biggest drop from #1 is “Walk Like An Egyptian” in January 1987 over the holiday break, which fell to #11.

Did Seacrest just finish his typical 4 week summer vacation? I see guest hosts for 3 of the previous 4 weeks. Was one missed? Anyway, he is back at the mic this week. Played an On the Verge track by Taylor Swift. Could that be her record tying 15th #1 hit? I thought Sabrina Carpenters' "Feather" was a slam dunk to hit the top weeks before it did so. Didn't get that vibe when hearing Taylor's hit. We'll see! Speaking of Sabrina, she gave a hint to her next release at the end of "Espresso". "Please Please Please" has hit the top 10 and all 3 of her hits are in the top 40 right now. Used only 3 different words in the titles of those hits! Brandy and Monica have a cameo appearance in the video for Ariana's "The Boy is Mine" since their 1998 hit shares the same title. After Dua's "Houdini" was played as an extra, Eminem's "Houdini" was at #14. His The Death of Slim Shady is a lot higher on the album chart...#1. Lost nothing in the last 20 years huh! The only artist in the countdown who was on AT40 before Seacrest was(which was mid 2003 as guest host). Actually Coldplay also have that distinction. Eminem is the only artist who had hits in the 20th century though. Speaking of #1s on other charts, the #1 Rhythmic track is "Million Dollar Baby" at 4. Ryan teases the #1 hit by saying it is a battle between the #1 alternative and #1 country tracks. Prefer that alternative track "Too Sweet" but it's the country track "I Had Some Help" which takes over the #1 spot. Casey said in the 80s show from 1981 that there were 7 country hits in the show. Is it true that country is making it biggest presence on AT40 since then or at least the early 80s right now?

Sabrina Carpenter finally does return to #1 with "Espresso" after a record 15 weeks. The previous record was 10 weeks for "Calm Down". She does drop out of the top 5 with "Please Please Please" so despite "Taste" rising to #6, she won't get 3 songs in the top 5 at the same time. "Forever Young" does debut 40 years after its original release. Challenge flag is thrown down for Seacrest not enlightening us on what the record is for longest time between original release and debuting on AT40.

It's a great song. Definitely gotta be a contender for #1 of the year, I would think. Such a catchy tune.
