The show for this coming weekend features a very interesting cross-section of musical generations, in a sense. For you see, this weekend's show will feature acts in their...
Teens: Ella Henderson, and all but the single oldest members of Echosmith and Fifth Harmony (Echosmith have this week's Subway Fresh Buzz Song, Fifth Harmony an Extra.) 20s: Way too many to name! 30s: Usher, Ne-Yo, Mark Ronson, just to name a few. 40s: Eminem, who's a part of the week's Two-For-One. Also worth noting that Juicy J is just a few weeks shy of 40. 50s: Madonna; "Living For Love" enters the survey. 60s: James Newton Howard, whose "Hanging Tree" is an Extra. And, 70s: Paul McCartney.
Can anyone think of any other time where so many different age decades were represented in one countdown show?
Also worth noting, for the 40s: Snoop Dogg had been in the survey, featured on the song "Stuck on a Feeling" by Prince Royce. Well, that song falls off this week and doesn't turn up anywhere else, which would have prevented the musical chain from happening if not for Eminem.

And much to no surprise, Madonna fell off last weekend, peaking at #40. Face it, Madonna having a song enter the top 40 is an accomplishment in this day and age.

Wow! On the 5/30/15 show, Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" featuring Charlie Puth makes it to #1 on AT40 in five chart weeks! How often has that happened in the 21st Century!?!

Wow! On the 5/30/15 show, Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" featuring Charlie Puth makes it to #1 on AT40 in five chart weeks! How often has that happened in the 21st Century!?! Katy Perry's "Roar" did that exact same thing two years ago, on 9/28/13. Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" did it in four, on 3/26/11. So too did Nelly's "Over and Over" featuring Tim McGraw, on 11/13/04. Just to name a few. These might be the only ones, but I'd have to double-check on that.

"Hollaback Girl" and "Love The Way You Lie" both hit #1 in their 5th week.

"Flowers" by Miley Cyrus duplicates that feat this past weekend, reaching #1 in just its 5th week, and jumping from #5, which Ryan said hadn't been done since 2018 (by Ariana Grande, "God Is A Woman").
Also to mention that Ryan pulls an early AT40 Casey by mentioning this feat in the show open. Suspense, anyone?
Also in this show: Biggest mover was "Love Again" by The Kid Laroi (40-28), and yet the week's highest debut came later at #26: "Special" by Lizzo & SZA.

Ryan also mentioned that the last song to hit #1 in its 5th week was “Can’t Stop The Feeling” in 2016.

Well, apparently, rebounding to #1 for a third time has now happened for a third time this decade, which only happened once during the classic Casey era. Getting back to #1 a second time doesn't happen too often, but returning a third time...wow. And it's no surprise for the artist who pulls it off, as she joins Post Malone and The Weeknd in this chart feat. It's none other than... Taylor Swift, with "Cruel Summer".

While not as big of a deal as in, say, the classic Casey era, but in this past weekend's show, SZA bookends the countdown. She leads off with "Kill Bill", and then rises to #1 with "Snooze".

"Calm Down", which debuted at this time last year, is on the rise again, up to #6. Already thinking it'll be in 2024's year-end countdown, at the rate it's going. Great track.

While not as big of a deal as in, say, the classic Casey era, but in this past weekend's show, SZA bookends the countdown. She leads off with "Kill Bill", and then rises to #1 with "Snooze". SZA'a latest release is titled "Saturn". Ryan says it would be the first AT40 planet hit since "Drops of Jupiter" in 2001. By my calculations, that would be the 5th planet to be mentioned in an AT/CT40 hit. Venus and Mars being mentioned in "Venus and Mars Rock Show"(among others) and Earth last being mentioned in "The Earth, the Sun, the Rain" in 1996. Rare to have the biggest mover and dropper moving at least 10 notches. Almost happened this week as "Strangers 'dropped 11-20 and "Texas Hold Em" moved 22-13. Can Beyonce get the biggest country hit on AT40 this decade? That title is currently held by Gabby Barrett with a fave of mine, "I Hope" which reached #3 at the end of 2020. We'll see! Ryan says that "Calm Down" is in its 70th week on AT40 at #34. Based on how much I hear that song on the radio, it should be a lot closer to the top 10. Unbelievable that stations are still playing that song so much. Not as much as "Feather" though. Certainly looks and sounds like a #1 hit there. Not before Taylor gets her 14th #1 hit. EDIT: Wow, I did not see that coming....a 3-1 move for the swift one. Says that she extends her record for the most #1 hits this century with her 14th. That the only one ahead of her in the history of the countdown is Madonna with 15. And that it is only a matter of time before she overtakes her. Well said Ryan Seacrest. Just for the record, this is the third time in AT/CT40 history that an artist has reached this threshold. First time was in 1994 on CT40 when Casey announced that Madonna had done so with "I'll Remember". Although it really did not happen until 1995 with "Take a Bow" because "Material Girl" while it hit #1 and is technically one of her 15 #1 hits only did so retroactively if you will. Because you have to use AT40 chart and countdown activity before CT40 was created and Material did not hit #1 there. Second time was in 2005 when Ryan announced that "Shake it Off" was Mariah's 14th. So no artist has a situation where he or she or they were announced as hitting #1 for a 15th time on the 2 countdowns. Little confusing there huh but it's true!

I think the last "Earth" song was "Standing At The Edge of the Earth" in 2000.
I remember in 2010 on the Hot AC version when "Need You Now" was #1 for several weeks and Ryan did a story on how it was the biggest country crossover hit of all-time.

An alarming drop the last 2 weeks for Taylor Swift. After falling out of the #1 spot to #6 last week, she drops another 5 spots this week to 11. No word from Ryan on the last #1 hit to drop out of the top 10 in just 2 weeks. That's akin to those 1974 #1 hits falling out of the top 10 in just 1 week, maybe even worse in this monitored airplay era. Don't see that happening for the new #1 hit "Feather". Displaced "Lovin on You" which joined that exclusive club of #1 hits that hit the top 3 times last week. Missed that show so don't know if Ryan provided any historical reference to that feat.

Yeah, these days, it's rare for a song to drop out of the top 3 when vacating #1. That's a pretty hard fall for Taylor. We'd have to go back quite a ways to find the last #1 to drop out of the top 3. The charts don't move anywhere near like they did back in the day.
It happens a bit more often on the country charts, however. And once in a great while, a song will fall out of the top 10. In fact, recently, a #1 fell down to #21.

Speaking of country, I heard 5 or 6 country influenced songs on the show this week. Is it me or is country having the most presence on AT40 since say 1981? Ryan says that Post Malone has made the top 10 in 3 weeks after he last did it a year ago. "Fortnight" with Taylor is almost certain to tie the Madonna R&R/Mediabase record for most #1 hits. That's me saying that not Seacrest! One spot ahead of it is "Greedy". Got a birthday present coming up when she plays a show in Raleigh on my birthday in August. But a better present would be to experience a relationship with a gal half my age that wants me as Tate sings about in that song!
