I have noticed that when Ryan plays an AT40 extra on AT40, he doesn't let us know in advance that he is about to play an extra. When Casey does his AT10 and AT20 Hot AC shows, he let us know ahead of time that he is about to play an extra. Also, when Ryan plays his extras, he doesn't tell a story leading into the extra, like Casey does, although on AT10, all of the extras that he plays don't have stories, except when he tells us ahead of time. Usually Ryan would play an extra without warning, and he won't tell us that an extra is being played until it is over. It would be great if Ryan would let us know in advance that he is about to play an extra.

Some of the extras you may be hearing may be added by your local affiliate to add time. The AT40 CDs contain a wild track of Ryan saying "Check this out...it's an AT40 extra" to make it sound like he's intro'ing the song.

The "Extras" that don't have a story (or much of a story, anyway) are actually "Big hits of the past" (or "AT10 Archives" songs, as I call them on my posts about the show on a different message board), but once or twice, I remember Casey announcing them ahead of time (or "teasing"). The first time was, I believe, on the first AT20 AC (on March 28, 1998), when he said, "Coming up, a former number one song..." and I thought he was referring to a song that was on the chart, but instead, it was "Welcome Back" by John Sebastian.
