Paul,
This may answer your question that you posed on the AT20 forum. I figured out that the clips of Casey in the blue shirt is the recording session from the 1/10/04 HAC show. And you can hear the clip of the end of the song as Casey gets ready to speak. So at least as of that date he was still hearing intros and outros

Still doesn't answer why it sounds so weird to me.

Btw, can't wait for the Browns next qb drafting decision. Which one do you think they'll take with the top pick next year?

I'm glad that ABC had the chance to honor Casey in this way. But still, it's kinda depressing for me, as a radio listener for so many years-Casey ended almost 34 straight years of counting down the biggest pop hits in the USA and around the world. And yet, that event was overshadowed by the passings of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson just days later. With due respect to both those events, the fact that Casey was well-liked by radio listeners for so many years, I sincerely wish more folks had been able to celebrate what Casey Kasem has done in his long career. And I'm just hoping that we who have witnessed the passing of this entertainment icon can remember him with as much fondness as Charles Gibson and ABC News did back in 2004.

Matt, you shortchanged Casey by five years. Said 34 years when it was 39 years for all intents and purposes when he retired in 2009 after his 40th 4th of July broadcast. Yeah I will get a shout out at some point when I head your way. Don't Forget Ken Martin. He is an up and coming person on the list of people producing shows. He is doing the #1 hits of the 70s manufactured specials and speaking of lost shows, may come up with a manufactured third hour to complete the second ever AT40 that is missing.

Thanks for the heads up, Neale, I appreciate that. Although when I meant 34 years, I meant the 34 years of the POP charts-I'm well aware that Casey continued on with the American Top 20 (the old Casey's Top 20) hot adult and American Top 10 (the old Casey's Countdown) mainstream adult countdowns for another five years after handing AT40 over to Ryan Seacrest-that's where the ABC News focus, and mine, were on. I'm also glad that Ken Martin is working with folks like Shannon Lynn to make sure that the complete Casey Kasem "library" of shows is complete-I know the second AT40 show, one Casey's Top 40, and a few of the later shows (the new AT40, the Westwood One CT20/Countdown shows, the new AT20/AT10) are still out there, waiting to be "rescued." Whomever does the remastering, as long as it stays true to the show, will help ensure the legacy that ABC News was highlighting in this very fitting salute to one of the best American radio broadcasters ever, in my opinion.

Actually, the last parts of Casey's career (1989-on) are pretty well accounted for, minus some gaps in the AC shows. And since the majority of those shows were pressed on CD, The quality holds up quite well.
