Have I just never noticed or has lately Ryan started saying a song is whatever it is out of 40? I don't listen all the time but I don't recall hearing it as much as I have on this show from last week. Not to nitpick but I hate it. First off it's confusing to me because if you say something is #5 out of 40 I'm going to automatically think it's the 5th song played, not 5th biggest in the USA. Plus it's a countdown, logic would seem to dictate nearly everyone listening to a show called "American Top 40" that's there's 40 songs and when he says #5 it's a countdown. I've never heard anyone count up EVER on a show in my 37 years alive.

He's done it for awhile. Doesn't really bother me, but I completely see your point.

I can see saying "The 5th biggest hit this week" but that's about it.

Yeah, it just sounds awkward. I don't think I'll be getting used to that any time soon.
