David Perry had his on air personality disorder and called himself Casey Kasem. I know we've had great fun laughing at this over the years and as it's it's anniversary I wanted to bring it up.
Btw, it was not a good week for him in general although I fault the writers exclusively for this whereas "I'm Casey Kasem it was everyone involved's fault. As "Backwater" ended he said that's Ed Kowalczyk singing lead with the Meat Puppets. Of course, no it wasn't. Ed was lead singer of Live.
Perhaps some good herbal stuff was going around the studio that week.

Add yet another problem, introducing "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" as he says "Prince" the song is already playing in the background. I don't mean as he's concluding the name it starts and there's just a millisecond of overlap. I mean "Could you be..." is being sung while Perry is saying "Prince."
Terrible week production wise for WW1.

Terrible week production wise for WW1. Technically calling him "Prince" was an error as well, as that was during his symbol-named phase. But I can understand Casey and others not wanting to say "the artist formerly known as Prince" twice or more each week he was on. I wonder if the regular producers/engineers, like Casey, took the week off and they had to rely on less experienced substitutes or something.

I think part of it had to do with how robotic and formulated the show had gotten at this point. Almost as if everyone just became mindless and just went through the motions and read the script and never questioned it

My wife who couldn't care less about these shows heard the infamous " I'm Casey Kasem" moment today and was amazed that could make the air like that.

Wow...it continues. Last hour..."coming up on Casey's COUNTDOWN a request and dedication..." This happened with regularity during that era. There just seemed to be a general production "laziness" at that time. On all but a few shows, you hear the same back-from-commercial jingle at the start of EVERY segment.

They only had 2 or 3 anyway so that was never a big deal to me.
