You know, ever since Casey passed away last Sunday, I have had a lot of thoughts on how he impacted my life. I was on Facebook on Sunday looking at a couple of pictures of a former classmate of mine from junior high and high school, someone that I have known for 30 years, and on the right side of the screen mentioned that Casey had died. I have to admit that I had no idea how to react when I first read that he had died. Although he had been sick for some time and his death was expected, nonetheless, like a lot of you, I was heartbroken and very upset. The next day, I sent that former classmate a message on how I felt about Casey passing away. She was the first person I had ever told on how much Casey meant to me. It really surprises me on how much Casey has impacted my life:
1. He got me interested in music trivia. From listening to the classic shows, I have learned a lot about music trivia from the show.
2. He got me interested in reading the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. I remember the first few months that I listened to the show, he kept mentioning the Hot 100. I used to ask myself, "What is this Billboard Hot 100 thing that he keeps talking about?" I have bought several Billboard Books written by Joel Whitburn.
3. He also got me interested in becoming a voice over artist. Although I haven't pursued that goal, at least not yet, it is something that I plan on doing at some point in the future. In fact, I am already making plans on pursuing it right now.
4. He got me interested in going to Wayne State University, his alma mater. Now, although I never graduated from WSU, I still plan on going back there and finish up my bachelor's degree.
It is amazing that a lot of people's careers and lives were impacted by Casey Kasem and American Top 40. And as I mentioned, mine was affected as well.
