If I am correct, this is the week the show used the R&R mainstream chart for the first time, and like AT40 movement would slow to a crawl. I was surprised through that I didn't hear a lot of songs re-enter the chart that had dropped off over the previous several weeks. About the most glaring thing was "Found Out About You" returning at #17.

Yep. Several older songs moved back up the chart ("The Power of Love" stands out in my memory as a big rebounder), but the Gin Blossoms song re entry was definitely an oddity... Even more so since it disappeared for good the following week.

This might've also been the week that "The Sign" returned to #1. That was pretty rare. I don't think anything like that had happened on the R&R chart since "Philadelphia Freedom" in 1975.

In the first 20-ish years of R&R, the only other #1 song that had ever bounced was, not so ironically, "Bennie and the Jets."

I never understood the situation with the Gin Blossoms song. Near as I can figure, they might have had a policy against old songs re-entering the chart and overlooked "Found Out About You", since that song was way up in the Top 20. That could explain it disappearing the following week. However, excluding all songs that had recently left the chart would not produce a very accurate chart, IMO.

In later weeks, these songs would re-enter:
Disarm - Smashing Pumpkins (twice) I Wish - Gabrielle All Apologies - Nirvana Regulate - Warren G. (after 7 weeks off)

(after 7 weeks off) Right - the only thing is, those songs hadn't been on the chart for but a few weeks, whereas "Found Out About You" had pretty much run its course.
