AT40 5/3/03.
I find it interesting that Casey encourages listeners to send in Mother's Day LDD's. However, Mother's Day was the next weekend, which means that show would have already been recorded and ready for shipping.

I have been listening to Rewind Central out of England about 50% of the time for the last 5 days or so. www.jamesmurphyenterprises.co.uk/ . I heard they play a top 40 countdown from the 60's somewhat similar to what Casey Kasem played - the Billboard top 40. I listened to 05/25/1968 this past Sunday and it was fantastic hearing them go from 40 to 1 on those songs. I hadn't heard some of those songs since 1968. They also have several other programs that are worth listening to occasionally. I would say about 65% of the songs they play are familiar to US listeners, but maybe 35% are British only hits.

It's the CT40 from 5/26/90. Casey tells the story of our town's (Pittsburgh, PA, of course) biggest and most noteworthy philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie. My, if only the rich and obscenely wealthy of our time would do what he had done, without setting up some gargantuan "foundation" that serves merely as a vehicle for further enrichment. Instead, most of them want to keep all of their money for themselves and their lazy, over-privileged children and grandchildren.

Finishing up with 5/30/87. Note on this show, that I didn't even think of previously. We like to think of 1989 as a big year for re-releases, but in this week's survey there's four - count 'em - four records all on their second time around. Most of us probably already know the stories behind the Paul Simon, Expose, and Bruce Hornsby second-go-rounds (with the latter two debuting in this week's countdown, in fact). The fourth, is "The Lady in Red". I wasn't aware of this one until reading the issue of Billboard from this same date - which spotlights these four in a story - but the song went to #17 on the AC chart on its first try, while missing the Hot 100. (Side note: Second try, it peaked at #2 on AC this very week - leapfrogged by Atlantic Starr's "Always".)

It's the first of the last 4 consecutive regular show sequence that has not been broadcast yet by Premiere in the 2 series.....5/31/80. There are three sequences of 4 consecutive regular shows not aired as yet and they are 10/18,25,11/4,11/78...11/24,12/1,8,15/79...5/31,6/7,14,21/80. This sequence from 1980 is the only one of the three that includes a guest hosted show BTW. Interesting to me that there was a LDD in the first hour from a gal in Schenectady, NY where I grew up to a guy at Fort Bragg, NC where I have a business location near now.
13 ballads in this show according to Casey. So a third of the songs are ballads here in the AC year of 1980.

On Saturday, I listened (again) to May 31, 1986, a show in which precisely half of the top 40 songs were performed by acts from the United Kingdom. Today, I'm listening to June 1, 1985, a countdown that featured a top eight consisting of foreign acts.
Yeah, there's a reason I like the mid-80s compared to other periods of that decade. Foreign acts>American acts, by a long shot.

Casey's Top 40 "Top 40 Acts of the 80s" special from 11/25/89. Probably my favorite and the most "reputable" of the numerous 80s specials CT40 did in 1989 and 1990. I feel this show is actually a much better representation of the decade in music than the Top 40 # 1's of the 80s that aired as the decade special. If I could pick one CT40 show to find a way to include in the AT40 the 80s show package that would be worthy, it would be this one.
