Given the lack of 1989 in the Rick Dees rotation, I'm putting on a 1989 show right now - Casey's Top 40 from 30 years ago, May 27, 1989.
Casey mentioned that Richard Marx wanted to produce for Poco and give them a comeback. Turned out to be a good idea - Poco returned to the top 40 later that year with "Call It Love".
Interesting story leading into Paula Abdul's #1 song - that she was to be involved in a film version of "Evita". It would eventually happen in 1996 - but with another singer in the countdown starring - of course, Madonna.

Working on a CT40 1989 marathon myself, listening to all the shows in order (with random ones in between). Up to 3/11 now, and Mark Elliott is sitting in for Casey on this one. My local affiliate didn't carry CT40 until sometime in early 1990, so all the 1989 shows are new to my ears. I listened to AT40 with Shadoe that year on another local station, so I'm more familiar with those shows.
A forgotten hit that I like debuts in this show: "Room To Move" by Animotion, featuring the former Mrs. Richard Marx on vocals, Cynthia Rhodes.

AT40 5/30/92, which contained the highest debut in AT40 history...for a few months at least! ("I'll Be There" - Mariah Carey debuted at #4).

At home, it's AT20 HAC from 5/30/1998. In the car, jumping into June with CT40 from 6/1/1991. On deck: CT40 from 3/25/1989.
ETA: Casey mentioned Whitney's upcoming film debut in "The Bodyguard", as part of his intro to her hit "Miracle", which was holding at #12 that week.

Just finished the 6/2/1979 show, the week that the "Summer of Donna" officially began as "Hot Stuff" ascended to the top spot. I still can't believe that "We are Family" didn't hit number one. Just so many good dance and disco songs on the chart then.
I'm having a great time reliving each 1979 show in chronological order. Man, disco may have died later in the year, but it was alive and kicking and breathing life into the world this time 40 years ago.
I'd gladly take 1979 over 2019. In nearly every aspect of life and music.

In memory of Humble Harve Miller, I'm listening to the AT40 he guest hosted from July 13, 1974.

At number two on the CT40 from 3/4/89, which is "The Living Years" by M&TM. Was the full version of this song ever played on CT40? I have over half a dozen shows with this song on it and I don't think any of them have it being played in full. Next up: The AT40 from the 2/25/2000 chart. I'm on the CT40 show dated 3/25/1989 (listening to them in order), and I've yet to hear the full version of "The Living Years". After that, 6/9/1979, which is guest-hosted by Bruce Phillip Miller. Absolutely love 1979 musically.

It was all downhill from there. I guess you could say that in other ways about 1979, too.

In memory of Dr. John, AT40 from June 9, 1973. "Right Place, Wrong Time" was #16 that week.... or at least, it was on the chart data Casey counted down that week - it was the week that AT40's chart didn't match the proper Billboard chart.

Even after the disco backlash during the summer, music later in 1979 was still ear candy. Still is to this day.
Currently, Casey's Top 40 from 4/1/1989. Straight vinyl transfer. Parts of it sound decent, others not so much. I'll eventually get a cleaned up copy.
Upcoming shows include CT40 6/8/1991, and AT40 6/16/1979.
