I record the 80s show on DAR.fm every week. This week, instead of downloading to my Downcast app on my iPod, I was told it is now a premium feature. I tried adding it to my iTunes, to the same effect. I don't see anywhere on the DAR.fm website where they announced this change. Is this just me, or are others seeing this on theirs as well?

Sadly, only a few folks actually saw the memo from Mr. Robertson about this... and most of the info on the site has NOT changed. Only on the sales page for the pro options do they cryptically mention 'stream(ing) to iPad'. Not that many tech news sites have talked about this... I have seen one, on SoCalTech. I'll have more info on this in the 70s and 80s threads. dL

Some of us have been advising about using Rarmaradio as an alternative, schedule, stream and record directly to your PC.You can record several streams at a time, you can re-encode on the fly or just record the raw stream for later re-encoding, that gives you flexibility as you can record streams as backup in case your favorite station fails. In other words you don't have to depend on a third party reliability but your own and it works reliably most of the time.

Agreed--I would advise anyone struggling with DAR.fm to use the station streams from iheartradio, etc. and loop the audio within the PC to record the stream with an audio recording program (such as Ramaradio, Roxio, Audacity, etc.). I've been doing that for about 3-1/2 years now, and it's served me very well, and the audio (from the good stations at least) sounds great.
Oh, and the best part is: other than the PC (and the audio software if you don't use Audacity), it's free--you don't have to subscribe to anything...

I wouldn't be able to do this. I don't have a recording device on my PC. I have to rely on a dar.fm (or others, if there are similar sites).

I think I would rather record from TuneIn Radio on my iPod again, though. And I have a RadioShark, I could always get a high quality recording from broadcast radio. I just liked the convenience of having the recording/downloading to my iPod to be easy.

I just paid it. It means too much to me to worry about the $40 a year. I waste more on that on dumb things like junk food, fast food, etc.

It should be noted that if anyone listens via the player on their site, you have to disable any ad blockers to listen or the player will not work.

If anyone still uses this, has your Dar.fm been down since yesterday? I e-mailed them about this but don't know if/when they'll respond.
