Listening to this week's show, I've begun to wonder about the Top 10 longest running chart toppers on HAC edition of AT20 in this decade.
I know that 3 Doors Down spent 16 weeks at the top of the chart with 'Here Without You' back in 2003 and 2004 and now Nickelback just fell out of the top spot after 15 weeks, but... because from 2000 to January 2004 I listened mostly to AT40, I have rather unclear idea about the chart toppers on HAC chart during that period.
Can you help to come up with the above-mentioned Top 10? Thanks.

I know that "Smooth" holds the record for most weeks at # 1 on HAC, with I believe 25 weeks (including the 2-week break for the Year-End countdown)
I think second place goes to "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty with 20 non-consecutive weeks (19 on, 4 off, 1 more on)

Not including the 2 week holiday breaks, here are the top 5 longevity at #1 record holders:
1. Smooth - 23 weeks 2. Wherever You Will Go - 20 Weeks 3. Unwell - 20 weeks 4. Complicated - 16 weeks 5. Iris - 15 weeks 6. Torn - 14 weeks 7. Here without You - 14 weeks 8. Photograph - 13 weeks 9. This Love - 13 weeks 10. Bent - 13 weeks 11. Everything You Want - 13 weeks

Just wanna add a small footnote:
"Smooth" by Santana has actually come into the N°1 spot back in 1999 in the 'old' decade, several weeks before the millennium. So if this question is answered correctly, the credits to the longest running N°1 of this decade goes to THE CALLING.

One more interesting fact:
If we look at the TOP 10 N°1 Songs, 3 of them included ROB THOMAS as a lead singer ..... Wich has really made him HOT AC's hottest act of this decade.

Going down a notch then, should we assume that Nickleback's "How You Remind Me" and its 18-weeks at Number Two hold the mark this decade for weeks at Number Two, without hitting Number One?

As far as I know, that is correct!!

Nickelback's record is also true whether or not you consider #1 songs. Hoobastank's "The Reason" spent a total of 13 weeks at #2 in addition to its time at #1 (record time at #2 for a #1 song), which is still about a month less than Nickelback.
