I have been getting caught up on the last few AT20's, I have only last weeks show and this past weeks show to get caught up on and I was curious on something. I guess nearly all the 80's-mid 90's songs are no longer being played? I have pretty much only been hearing stuff from the past 5 years now.

The last few shows have featured some older songs....last week included "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang. In the last few weeks I have also heard "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo, "Material Girl" by Madonna, "The Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley, and even some 70's hits...."More Than A Feeling" by Boston and "Changes" by David Bowie come to mind.
It always seems random. Some shows will have 1 or 2 songs that are older than 5 years and other shows feature tons of 80's and even go back to the 70's. It never seems consistant. I like the shows that primarily feature older songs, but that's just because I am a big 80's fan.

I also heard "Touch Of Grey" by the Grateful Dead (1987) on last week's show... and it was the long version!

On February 25-26, 2006 AT20, there were abovementioned Don Henley's 'The Heart Of The Matter' from 1990, George Michael's #1 smash 'Faith' from 1987, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians with 'What I Am' from 1989, Bruce Springsteen with 'I'm On Fire' from 1985, General Public with 'Tenderness' from 1985, Kool & The Gang with 'Celebration' from 1981, also the aforementioned Grateful Dead with "touch Of Grey' from 1987 as well as Eddie Money with 'I Wanna Go Back' from 1987, for example.
On February 18-19, 2006 AT20 show there were Pet Shop Boys with 'West End Girls' from 1986, Blondie with 'Rapture' from 1981, Georgia Satellites with 'Keep Your Hands To Yourself' from 1987 as well as Bruce Hornsby & The Range with 'Mandolin Rain' from 1987, and already mentioned Kaja Goo Goo with 'Too Shy' from 1983.
On February 11-12, 2006 edition of AT20 you've got Human League's #1 smash from 1982 'Don't You Want Me', U2 with 'Angel Of Harlem' from early 1989, Right Said Fred with 'I'm Too Sexy' from 1992, Wham with 'Careless Whisper' from 1985 and Howard Jones with 'Everlasting Love' from 1989. Also there was Baltimora with his European 1985 big summer smash 'Tarzan Boy' which charted on AT40 in early 1986.
On January 21-22, 2006 AT20 Casey played Journey and "Don't Stop Believin' " from 1981, as optional extra at the end of hour one AC/DC from 1980 with 'You Shook Me All Night Long', Toad The Wet Sprocket from 1993 'Walk On The Ocean', 1984's number one smash by Culture Club 'Karma Chameleon', also Loverboy with their hit from 1982 'Working For The Weekend' and Steve Miller Band's #1 from that same year, i.e. 1982 'Abracadabra' as well as The Romantics with "Talking In Your Sleep' from 1984.
And you could heard The LA's with their 1991 smash 'There She Goes' on some February or so edition.
In conclusion, I would say, there are plenty of those songs on the show.

This Topic (or any simular) is as old as the board itself. VARIETY is the answer !!! It is not a special ban of the 80s or 90s or whatever. It's just VARIETY !!! Nothing more ! And it's good we have this variety, because other than that the show would be going to fade away ...... Would you like to hear all of the same 80s songs over and over again ( because all the other's are no longer playable to HAC radios )

Radioman, I asked not because I hate variety, but because I heard three consecutive shows that seemed to primarily be focusing on the last 5-10 years of music. It has nothing to do with my love for 80's or anything else. Is there something wrong with asking?

Just thought it was interesting that AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" was on AT20 as an extra again this week, only six weeks since the last time.

I was just thinking there might be another "80's on AT20" discussion again ...... wich I think is boring, because there are enough 80's songs played on the show. But there was nothing wrong with your question . Really !

technically if you want a real variety, the show should have equal amounts of everything rather than be heavy in one era of music each week.

Yes that's true. My vision is, since we have 3 decades of music on HAC radios, and 3 hours of the show, each hour can highlight a different era of music. Like Hour 1 plays all 80's extras, Hour 2 all 90's extras, Hour 3 all 00's extras. I didn't name it "Spotlight", because I believe that's not a brilliant thing. Also there can be a mix in every hour for the 3 decades.
Someone very close to show told me a while ago, there are not enough "playable" songs for every time of the year. Some were overplayed, others can't be used these days, even they were big hits in the past. We've all heard from Clear Channel's inofficial blacklist or playlist on the other hand.
Personally, I think the choice of all the Extras and songs from the past in recent weeks was an excellent one ! We've heard songs from the younger past ( early 00's ) wich you haven't heard in quite a long time. When it comes to the 80's, about 80% of all played songs were heavily repeated every year, sometimes more than once a year.
