Hi all,
Has anybody here been frustrated with recording off DAR.fm lately? I am. In fact, I'm considering giving up on them.
Can anybody in this board offer any cheaper recording alternatives (and hopefully it won't require me to have the station on while recording).
Thanks very much.

Have you tried e-mailing them? I did when there was a screw up with one station I used. They quickly fixed it.

After seeing this, I searched "record streaming radio in cloud" and this came up first... usave.it/It offers free and multiple paid options, but I can't tell if it has all the same features. dL

Update: It looks like you have to play the recorded program on their site player; there's no way to save it elsewhere.
And, it doesn't look like you can do anything else with a recording (delete?) until you've played it through.

Bumping. Before paying for Dar I'd like to know if there are any alternatives. Preferably something that I can set to record in advance and don't have to be sitting at the computer to babysit. I have tons of problems with Dar. The player will just not advance to the next 15 minute segment reliably. There are often segments missing. And after a few months, some segments seem to spoil, ie not play at all anymore. All I've ever used is Audacity--it works great, and it's got a recording timer you can set. So if I want to record KOKZ tomorrow, I just pull up the stream from their website, open Audacity and set the timer (usually start 15 minutes early and have it run for 30 minutes over at the end of the show, so for tomorrow, I'd set the timer to run from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm Central Time). I've used it for five years now and it almost never fails me--usually if there's a problem it's from the stream dropping, and it doesn't matter what you're using to record if that happens.

Well Audacity records in .wav format and can be converted to .mp3, an it doesn't use 'the cloud', saves the files locally on your pc, so u can easily transfer to an ipod/mp3 player an thus, listen at work.

usave.it says one option after a 30-day trial is a limited free plan. Anybody know what exactly the limits are? Is one AT40 show per week over the free limit?
For those who record from their computer, I do not believe anything is better than Total Recorder. Reason is that the user only needs to setup a schedule once. From then on, you only need to make sure the computer is ON when recording. Everything is automatic. No need to start a stream manually. No need to restart a stream if it stalls for some reason either. Total Recorder will just launch the stream at the designated time & relaunch the stream if there is nothing being recorded. Only downside is the program is more than what people want to pay for such an application. Personally, I think buying Total Recorder Pro is a much better deal than paying for Dar.fm.
I have been looking for a free alternative for Total Recorder for years but have never found one. I was using the free account dar.fm only because my computer does not have to be turned ON to record AT40 Classic. On the other hand, Dar.fm's user experience was pretty bad for me because the next 15 minute block never seemed to start automatically.

So what's everyone going with to replace dar.fm which shuts down for free users today. I tried usaveit, but never get an activation email.

A few people have mentioned using the free program Streamwriter. I installed that yesterday but from what I can tell, recording only works if you find a Windows Media or generic media player friendly URL. Problem with that method of course is that it is not always easy to find the URL. Plus, that URL could change easily without notice.

I use MP3MyMP3. It's similar to the others mentioned in that it will record whatever is playing through the speakers. It also has a scheduling feature where you give it a starting and ending day and time along with a URL. This is part of the free version. The trouble is, once the recording is finished, the stream keeps playing. Ideally I'd like to have the computer wake up, record the show, and then go back to sleep. I set up some scripts on my home theater PC to do this, but it's a bit clunky and doesn't always work as expected. I liked using DAR, but I'm not quite ready to pay for it.

Plenty of stations that play AT40 are already in the streanwriter database (KOKZ & WODC are already in the database) streams for other stations can be found easily be searching the web (Radio Locator is great for finding URLs )

How would I find KOKZ and WODC or any other AT40 station in Streamwriter's database? Entering the call letters in the search box produces 0 stations.
I forgot all about Radio Locator as I have not used that site in years.

Does anyone have an Abigail radio link (WEZG) that works for usaveit? When I put the direct link for the stream in, it never finds anything!

WEZG's website says the stream is not active. Where then can you listen to the stream?
