By leaping from #5-#1, Katy Perry's “Roar” makes the biggest jump to #1 since Mariah Carey vaulted from #8-#1 with “Dreamlover” in 1993.

It's a catchy tune. I downloaded it for my daughters' the day it was released online. Even after hearing it close to a million times, I still like it. lol

On AT40, "Roar" jumped 8-1 last week, matching "Dreamlover". And it knocked out of #1 a song that made an even bigger leap to the top: Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" jumped from 11 to 1 in July and stayed there for 10 weeks.

^ "Blurred Lines" (on July 20) was the biggest jump there since Paul & Linda McCartney did it back in 1971. (12-1 on September 4, for those who heard that show and remember). When "Roar" did this last week, I asked if it was the first time back-to-back #1s jumped there from outside the Top 5. Turns out that the song Paul & Linda followed to the top - "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by The Bee Gees - jumped 6-1 to get there. Interesting case of history repeating itself (in a sense), no?

By leaping from #5-#1, Katy Perry's “Roar” makes the biggest jump to #1 since Mariah Carey vaulted from #8-#1 with “Dreamlover” in 1993. Clarification: this stat is true on the Hot AC chart, but that was dated Oct. 5-6.
