“Enemy” was # 1 for 2 weeks on AT40, and Ryan said it was the first #1 from a TV soundtrack since “Love Is” (from “Beverly Hills 90210) in 1993. Which seemed a factual faceplant to me. What about the Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There For You” from “Friends”? #1 for 8 weeks in 1995 in Radio & Records (AT40’s usual chart data reference) and still heard on the tube multiple times a day every day. Actually, I don't recall "Love Is" from Beverly Hills 90210 making #1 on Shadoe Stevens AT40 when it was in its last 2 years and using the Top 40 Mainstream Billboard chart source. "Love Is" hit #1 on CT40/R&R (5/8/1993), which is what Ryan references. Anything that happened during the Shadoe years would only be later referenced by, well, Shadoe. |

I just heard Lady Gaga's new song "Hold My Hand" from "Top Gun: Maverick" which could be charting any week now. Plus, Imagine Dragons have "Enemy" from the TV soundtrack to "Arcane." And there's "I'm Tired" by Labrinth and Zendaya from the TV soundtrack to "Euphoria." I just saw "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3" at the movie theatre recently, I think that little known 1979 Rainbow song "Since You Been Gone" heard in the movie and also appearing on the music soundtrack should get a new life on CHR radio. Are you hoping for it to appear on current AT40 like Kate Bush's 1985 "Running Up That Hill" reissue did last year, Mr. Seacrest?

So we're still getting the occasional "hit song from a movie," but there doesn't seem to be a clear explanation of why multi-artist hit soundtrack albums like "Footloose" and "Urban Cowboy" have disappeared. If anything, you'd think that streaming would increase the chances of multiple cuts from a soundtrack album becoming hits. If you put in a good mix of currently popular artists, I see no reason why history can't repeat. Thoughts?
