During Hour 3, Segment 2 of this weekend show....only two songs are played, # 6 and # 5. Generally an extra is played in between those 2 songs during this segment.
This week, after song # 6 played, there was an abrupt cut off and after Casey outroed song # 6, the "# 5" jingle played, but without Casey ever saying "i'm Casey Kasem" or anything to that nature. Usually an extra has just finished and Casey says "i'm Casey Kasem, now on with the countdown" and the jingle plays. It almost sounded like there was an extra placed there that WKDD decided to edit out, which is orignally what I thought had happened.
But after a check of yes.net's playlists of a few other AT20 affiliates, it appears this was on the end of AT20. Almost as if there was an extra (as always) that they decided not to run and didn't go back and make a smooth transition between # 6 and # 5. Also - Hour 3 definately ran short, as the show began right on time, and was running on time up until Hour 3, when it ended up ending 5 minutes early - and there was no reduction in ads. If you haven't heard the show yet - listen for it.

I was finally able to listen to this show yesterday, and that transition was abrupt. Usually he'll at least say "on American Top 20, I'm Casey Kasem" followed by the jingle.
Perhaps there was a production problem?

Sometimes there could be found an announcement wich seems unusable, or includes a big mistake or whatever, after Casey left the studios for the week.
Seems a possible reason for making an edit to a show.
Don't forget there are just humans producing and recording the shows. Why do trains collide ? Because the human engineer presses the wrong button .....

I wasn't implying shoddy work on the AT20 engineers...I was just noting how it was odd and probably was a production error. AT20 is a well produced show IMHO.

More like a fix for a production error in my opinion. They may have mis-calculated song lengths and had to cut out an extra. Or perhaps they had made an error in the script, and didn't catch until Casey had already left the building.
