Can't believe I missed this thread, but got one that has haunted me all my life: Police "Every Breath You Take" I heard "I'm a pool hall ace" instead of "my poor heart aches".

I'll add one I still think "Blinded By The Light" has a line saying "Reved up like a douche"

I'll add one I still think "Blinded By The Light" has a line saying "Reved up like a douche" This was a common misconception about this song, and in fact Bruce Springsteen supposedly took a jab at the remake, saying that the reason it made it to #1 was because everyone thought that MMEB was singing "wrapped up like a douche". Bruce's original lyric was "cut loose like a deuce", but MMEB changed it to "revved up like a deuce". All I have to say is: sorry Bruce, but the reason MMEB's version hit #1 was because it was a significantly more enjoyable listen than Bruce's original version. Just one man's opinion...

I used to think the line in Tom Petty's Refugee was "don't act a little like a refugee" instead of "don't have to live like a refugee"

From 1976 through 1984, every time I heard "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own" by Elton John, I would sing, "Grow some funk of your own, meatloaf! Grown some funk of your own!" It took a couple of high school buddies to let me know I had been singing it wrong for eight years.

One from the current hits in "Uptown Funk!" in the line "For The Good Girls Straight Masterpieces" until I saw a video of a remake version I thought he said masterbaters instead of masterpieces.

My wife thought Rod Stewart was singing "if you want my money and you think I'm sexy" but she was only 12 when the song came out.

A friend of mine thought that Rod Stewart's 1979 hit was called "Can't Love A B***h"

I've always heard f*gen sing "Give us some f***ed up muzak" instead of "funked" in "FM."
In fact that may be what he actually says regardless of what the lyric sheet says....

I thought it would be fun to bump up this thread to see if anyone has any new ones. I remembered one after hearing "More Than A Feeling" on this week's 1976 show.At first I thought that Boston was singing "When I get tired of taking coke" instead of "When I'm tired and thinking cold" I thought they were talking about drugs! It was the 70's after all

I often got a line confused from Toto's "Africa" "I get some rays down in Africa" is what I thought was said. It's actually "I bless the rains down in Africa."A couple others popped in my head

Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night" "You just gotta bad diet cherry coke."

Bryan Adams's "Summer of 69" "Standin on your mama's (expletive)" Take into account the number in the title of the song

It wasn't until I heard Casey quoting the lyrics of "Drift Away" that I knew the singer asking for a beat. I always thought the singer was a big Beach Boys fan.
Another song I could never hear the correct lyrics is "Midnight train to Georgia" I always hear "so he burned down his house".
