It was also five years ago today that a few of us had the privilege of meeting Casey during "Casey Kasem Day" in Fenton, Michigan. I know it was without a doubt one of the highlights in my personal life, having a chance to meet my radio idol and having a couple of minutes to chat with him about countdowns and the radio industry. I only attended the afternoon movie screening and autograph session, which was quite crowded. Fortunately, by sheer luck, I was able to meet Casey in the "backstage" hallway during the movie and have a few quality minutes talking with him before he went out for his short talk and autograph session. He was very generous and kind, and I will always appreciate that. He humored me when I complimented and talked about the countdowns, and then we talked about how much radio had changed and wished me luck in my on air career (which, ironically, ended a week later) His cousin, who had put the event together, was also very nice and took a few pictures of myself and Casey together. I remember it like it was yesterday - and will forever have the memory of my moment with Casey Kasem.

Speaking of Casey's 81st, here's a song about that unique birthday (it's the first lost oldie that I featured on my pre-AT40 countdown thread back in January): "The 81" - Candy & the Kisses www.youtube.com/watch?v=chiuLdoLqSs

Bumping this up to wish a happy 82nd birthday to Casey this Sunday, April 27. May he find peace amidst the struggles that Parkinson's disease inflicts on its victims. Also hope a solution can be found to ease the symptoms or cure this disease.

According to this Arab-American News article, it was one of the last Scooby-Doo videos he did. dL

Thanks. I was thinking it was maybe a documentary on Casey's career (not a bad idea, if it hasn't been attempted already).
