True...forgot to mention the Sure Shot. I always thought of the Sure Shot as 3-4 minutes where the entire audience is supposed to forget the show just began and that 40-31 were not played.

He would simply cut the "not suited for Hot AC" songs and play recurrent extras in their places, giving them numbers. Yeah, basically he took the CHR/Pop chart, poked a few holes in it, and called it Hot AC.

I remember you had told me something liek that before, but I wanted to make sure that was accurate. That seems odd since the program director from that station I believe it was in Washington told him that idea was stupid and after the PD argued with the Dees staff, Dees himself relented and said he would record two different shows. Of course, basically the current HAC show usues a bunch of segments from the CHR show.

Of course, basically the current HAC show usues a bunch of segments from the CHR show. I've listened to Rick's Hot AC show a couple times in the last 2 months, and he uses a LOT of Pop segments. For example, the first show of the new year (Jan 2), Maroon5 was #1 for a 12th week, and he even said that going into the song, but then coming out, he apparently used an old Pop segment and said the song was spending its 5th week at #1. Another time, he was talking about Evanescence, their #1 hit "Bring Me To Life" and their #2 hit "My Immortal". Fine for the Pop show, but OBVIOUSLY recycled for the Hot AC show, which just bugged me big time.

I haven't heard Dees' HAC show in a long time, but the scenarios you are outlining..."recycling" segments happen on shows all the time...even Casey's. At least we haven't had the old WW1 Casey scenario happen again...you'll be listening to CT40 and hear Casey say "Coming up on Casey's Countdown" or vice-versa.
As for AT40/HAC, it is a legit chart...a Mediabase-generated one, different than R&R's. Ryan does the full show and there's no "obvious" lifting from the CHR show, though obviously stories (and probably edited voicetracks) do repeat between the two shows. It's overall a nicely-done show.
A side note...I just finished listening to the AT40/HAC year-end show, which was a one-week top 40 of 2004, aired 1/1/05. At the end of the show, Ryan does a nice thank you/tribute to Casey ala what he did on AT40/CHR early last year. It was very nice and very classy.

I can handle identical stories for both AT10 and AT20 wanting to play an extra about a common artist. One time, I was listening to AT10 do "[insert Aerosmith story]...now here's Aerosmith with their #1 Pop song 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' ". That same weekend, AT20 also played an Aerosmith extra. "[insert same story]...now here's Aerosmith with their Top 10 hit, 'Jaded'."
I don't mind that. As long as the segment is edited to be accurate, I don't care if Casey uses the same story for both of Hoobastank's songs currently in the Top 20. Now, if "The Reason" is coming up ("Disappear" will have already been played) and Casey says..."now here's Hoobastank with one of 2 songs on our survey, 'Disappear'.", then that would peeve me.

I can as well topay, thats to be expected as both shows have some of the same songs. But as you say, at least dont lift the segments, it sounds terrible and like the host have no idea what they are doing.

Well, it's been a full year now without a single substitute host, and there appears to be no end in sight.
I e-mailed Ed McMann the other day just to see if he was still the "active guest host" and he replied saying he did not know what was going on with the guest hosts (or lack thereof).
I know the initial "record" in 1970-1971 was 60 some weeks without a guest host. Will this be broken some 34 and a half years later?

Let me tell ya...I'm all for the lack of guest-hosts. Some have been plenty enjoyable over the years, such as Mark Elliot and Charlie VanDyke. But there's only one person who counts 'em down like Casey Kasem...and with apologies to Shadoe and Ryan...that person is Casey Kasem. Long live the lack of guest hosts!

Does anyone have a list of stations that carry the new AT40 HAC with Ryan? AT40.com has a list of stations of AT40 and I wish they'd do the same for AT40HAC.
I'd really like to hear that show.

The AT40.com affiliate list hasn't really been updated since the site debuted.
As for providing Hot AC show info...it seems to be the exact same thing that happens on Rick Dees. The website acts as if the website doesn't even exist.
For those who have heard AT40 HAC, does Ryan mention the website, and if so, is it the same one?

Looking back, I just realized I typed "the website acts as if the website doesn't exist"
That should read "the website acts as if the Hot AC show doesn't exist"
I should never have scheduled all of my classes on Mon, Wed, & Fri and then assumed I could still function on those nights.
