Because of the new CC "less is more" commercial reduction, Premiere has added "optional" segments in Casey and Ryan's shows with an added extra. The segment can be cut for time if the affiliate is running behind or if they choose to add more local commercials.
Both of my affiliates, WMVX/Cleveland and WKDD/Akron are airing the extra segments. When I return to college next week, I will find out if the affiliate up there, WXXO/Meadville, is airing them. Is your affiliate running them?

Was the extra in the final AT40 segment optional or was it within the actual show? That will answer whether or not they are playing it or not.

Not sure how AT40 is doing it, but, as Scott mentioned somewhere else, AT20 (and I assume AT10) has basically put the number of songs that previously took up 4 segments into 3, and then Segment 4 of hour 1 and 2 is one extra, and then the "Countin' Down The Hits With Casey Kasem" jingle bed. Therefore, if you are no longer hearing that you aren't getting the extra.
Hour 3 is now 5 segments, with Segment 2 being a one song countdown extra segment with no network commercials included. Therefore, if it is skipped, the show will sound as it did before.

I have finally heard all the shows I got recorded last weekend(didnt get AT20) and my local AT40 affiliate XL 106.7 is playing ALL the extra segments. I dont like the way they are done on AT40, Ryan just stops talking and the segment ends. Unlike At10 which at least sounds like a real segment. I honestly don't like this "extra" format at all. I like the old days when stations would have Casey or Shadoe do a promo saying "Here's an AT40 extra on (insert radio station here)." and the station would play whatever they wanted.

I agree...the AT40 extra (optional) segments are a little strangely done. I guess the idea is that they'd slam right into the next segment of the show...but if they break it up at all, it's going to sound weird.

This morning I heard an affiliate not play all of the optional extras for the first time. I listened to the show this morning on WMTX - Mix 100.7 in Tampa, FL (yahoo for Spring Break, bigger yahoo for getting away from it all for a week and just hanging out in a beachfront condo with the folks...now that I have made everyone jealous ) and they ran the segments in the first two hours, but did not air the second to last segment in Hour 3, and it made me realize how unnatural that extra does sound there on the other stations and how I wish it would go back to being earlier in the hour. Also- with the move of the T-O-H ID jingle, the station also edits out "Countin' Down The Hits with Casey Kasem..." which was a bit puzzling for a second until I realized what they were doing. I bet all my friends who went on Spring Break to party are jealous of me for going with my parents and waking up at 7am on the first day, a Saturday nonetheless, to listen to Casey Kasem!!

I aint jealous ;D Anyway, on to AT20, I am not a big fam of that affiliate. They are one of those I have tried to listen over the net on, but they at times forget to flip back off of net music.commercials and return to the show before it restarts. I missed a couple of segments that way one week when I tried to listen to it.

They seem to be a decent enough affiliate for the regular over the air broadcast. The only funny thing they did was edit out the "Countin' Down The Hits With Casey Kasem" jingle bed, so you had Casey outroing the optional end of the hour segment cold, the station's Top of the Hour ID (which primarily featured the WMTX voice talent, but also had a small snippet of Casey telling me I was listening on Mix 100.7) followed again by an obviously edited to sound like a cold intro of Casey starting the next hour.

My local station just tried something new, and I like it.
After the optional extras in Hours 1 and 2, the station IDs itself, then the "Counting Down the hits..." jingle comes on, then Casey is back on, just like the days before the optional extra.
Before, they would do the extra, then the jingle, then local commercials, then a Station ID and Casey. Hopefully the change is permanent.

But the way you describe it still sounds odd to me, my local affliate used to air AT40's 10 second outro at the top of the hours the exact way CT40 was done. So, all of this inserting affiliates and all before restarting segments has always sounded wierd to me.

The other station I listen to AT20 on does it a little differently. They will play the optional extra, then just go with the jingle and start with the next hour. Is that the "normal" way?

Up until late January, the TOH jingle was featured after the final segment at the end of the Hour 1 and 2 discs.
Now -- it has moved to being the first thing on Segment 1 of Hours 2 and 3. This is so it still airs on stations not airing the optional segments.
The way it is intended is for a station ID to play during the instrumental portion. But i'd say at least half of the stations run a longer ID and therefore the Casey jingle sounds a bit lengthy.

For what it's worth, I caught part of AT40/HAC on WAYV out of Atlantic City while vacationing at the Jersey shore this weekend. They carry the show from 8 til midnight on Sundays. I didn't hear the full show, but know that in hours one and two, the optional extras were NOT played.
(By the way, they used to carry AT20, but that appears to be gone from their lineup...as does Dees, who used to air twice a weekend on WAYV.)
