Toto's 1982 hit "Make Believe" sounds like John O'Bannion's 1981 hit "Love You Like I've Never Loved Before". Funny -- I always thought the John O'Banion record sounded a lot like "Hold the Line"!

It recently occurred to me that Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose" and Aldo Nova's "Fantasy" are rather similar.

I recently made a compilation of chart singles of my 45's visiting June 1973-It was unbelievable how many great songs were on the Top 40 at that time! I came across George Harrison's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth). It sounded like Bob Dylan's 1966 hit "I Want You".

I recently realized that the male vocalist on Yarbrough & Peoples' "Don't Stop The Music" sounds a lot like Stevie Wonder.

Question
Does "Hold On Tight" (#10, 1981) by ELO sound like "Look What They've Done to My Song Ma" (#14, 1970) by The New Seekers or Melanie's original (#9 UK)?
First I've heard of it from the Steve Hoffman Music Forums recently, then via a Google search, found Straight Dope had this brought up back in 2015 as well.
But I don't think so, also my Mom who got me into music and knows both songs doesn't either!
They did overlap with corresponding chart dates for 7 weeks though, across time, 11 years apart...
9/19/70-9/19/81 9/26/70-9-26-81 10/3/70-10/3/81 10/10/70-10/10/81 10/17/70-10/17/81 10/24/70-10/24/81 10/31/70-10/31/81

Journey's "Suzanne" sounds a little bit like Michael McDonald's 1985 hit "No Lookin' Back".

I think Khalid's voice sounds like Tracy Chapman's.

Well, we will miss out on this track by one week , but Paul Anka and Peter Cetera's 1983 duet "Hold Me Til' The Morning Comes" sounds a little bit like KC- I & JoJo's #1 hit from 1998 titled "All My Life."

Don't know if anyone mentioned this one yet, but I always thought "The Politics Of Dancing" by Re-Flex sounded like Duran Duran. Not totally surprising--DD had a few imitators at the time.

Tears for Fears sounded a bit like Naked Eyes too. In fact when I first heard "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" in April 1985 I thought it was Naked Eyes. Come to find out both bands originated from Bath, England, UK. Coincidence? Probably not totally if both groups came up through the pub scene there and heard each other's music, and/or were influenced by a certain new wave sound that may have been popular there at the time.

lasvegaskid, wasn't the first section by PP&M mimicking TM&TPs? Pay tribute, ripping off, copying on purpose, however you say it, I thought that that was indeed the intention, the point. Same for Donavan and The Beatles, later in the song.
