jlthorpe ... I enjoy your lost classic picks over four decades. Just curious... Have you ever thought of syncing one of your '80s picks with the A or B show in a given week? I realize some years may be getting a little lean with available songs but I enjoy it when some of the '70s selections are paired with that week's chart. Given that... Here's a Lost '80s Classic from the 1/17/87 Hot 100 featuring Jesse Johnson from The Time and Sly Stone... yes, Sly from Sly & The Family Stone. Sly's in fine form on this funky tune called, "Crazay". This tune was off its #53 peak at #59, spending 16 weeks on the Hot 100: I now return this thread to its rightful owner ...

I know that was done in this thread in the past, by dukelightning or 1finemrg, but I like to post here in my own way. Especially since I don't really listen to the AT40 replays anymore (just lost interest at some point, plus I also have a bunch of shows from Shannon so can listen whenever I want if I wanted to).

Climbing from #25 to its peak of #23 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for January 17, 1987 was the follow-up to The Smithereens' "Blood and Roses" (posted here this past October) from their debut album Especially for You - "Behind the Wall of Sleep".

On the Bubbling Under chart for January 26, 1985, hip-hop act Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three were at #103 (their peak) with "Request Line". By the way, the Slick Rick rapping here is not the more well-known British-American rapper of the same name.

A week away from hitting #1 on the Hot Dance/Disco - Club Play chart, Grace Jones' "Slave to the Rhythm" was in the runner-up position at #2 for January 25, 1986.
Confusingly, the song was titled "Ladies and Gentlemen: Miss Grace Jones" on the Slave to the Rhythm album; the actual track that was titled "Slave to the Rhythm" is below.

35 years ago, on today's chart date in 1989, Ratt's "Way Cool Jr." was at its peak of #75 on the Hot 100. It was spending its fourth of seven weeks on the chart, and would be their final Hot 100 hit.

Created for commercials for the California Raisin Advisory Board in 1986, The California Raisins soon became a marketing sensation with a cartoon series, records, and other assorted merchandise. Featuring musician Buddy Miles on vocals, their cover of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" debuted at its peak of #84 on the prior week's Hot 100, and on the January 30, 1988 chart it was down to #85.

Gave me flashbacks to 7th grade. I remember seeing many classmates rocking California Raisins t-shirts back then.

Today is both Valentine's Day and (for Catholics) Ash Wednesday, and I have two songs from the February 15, 1986 Billboard that are appropriate for those occasions.
Before Celine Dion and Laura Branigan had Top 40 hits with "The Power of Love", the song's co-writer Jennifer Rush reached #57 on the Hot 100 with her version. This week in 1986, it climbed from #91 to #84 in its second week on the chart.
And it's not religious ashes, but the volcanic ashes which buried Pompeii, that Siouxsie and the Banshees are singing about in "Cities in Dust"; on the Hot Dance/Disco Club Play chart, it was holding at its #17 peak.
