While Rush's "New World Man" was climbing the October 2, 1982 Hot 100 (at #53 that week), their song "Subdivisions" from the same album Signals was up to #30 on the Top (Rock) Tracks chart. It leaped 25 notches to its peak of #5 the following week; it also reached #105 on the Bubbling Under chart in early 1983.

I love Rush's music; shame their songs didn't chart better here in the States. Really like "The Spirit Of Radio" and "Tom Sawyer".

Climbing to #14 (which is where it peaked) on the Album Rock Tracks chart for October 4, 1986, "Blood and Roses" by The Smithereens was the band's first song to make that chart and was from their debut album Especially for You.

Going to the R&B chart for October 10, 1987, Brooklyn rapper Dana Dane was holding at #13 with "Cinderfella Dana Dane". Sampling "Dazz" by Brick, "Cinderfella" just missed the Top 10 by hitting #11 the following week.

Can this be considered a lost classic? The live version of Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" hit #1 in 1987, but the studio version was holding at its peak of #107 on the October 10, 1981 Bubbling Under chart. Even though "Mony Mony 'Live'" was the actual hit, the studio version is the one that seems to get any airplay.
Since "Mony Mony" isn't much of a lost classic, here's another 1981 song by Idol... which also isn't much of a lost classic. "Dancing with Myself" was originally released by Idol and his band Generation X in 1980, but was remixed the following year to be a solo single for Idol. Continuing to get airplay today, this version "Bubbled Under" in 1983, reaching #102.
For comparison, here's the original Generation X version from their album Kiss Me Deadly, which doesn't sound much different except vocals and instruments have been emphasized/de-emphasized.

Ratt's follow-up to "Round and Round" did not hit the Top 15 or even the Top 40 like its predecessor; "Wanted Man" peaked at #87 on the Hot 100 this week in 1984, and dropped off the chart the following week.

From the Nebraska album, Bruce Springsteen's "Atlantic City" was down from #25 to #29 on the Top (Rock) Tracks chart this week in 1982, after debuting at #23 two weeks earlier. But instead of dying, "Atlantic City" came back and rose to a #10 peak.
Also from the same album, "Johnny 99" debuted the same week as "Atlantic City" at #50, but never got higher than that.

One of my two least-favorite Springsteen LPs. And I've got them all, even the recent ones. My other least-favorite is "The Ghost Of Tom Joad", which is similar in style to "Nebraska". The "Atlantic City" video is pretty good from a video standpoint.

Too bad "Atlantic City" by Bruce Springsteen didn't make a dent on Billboard's Hot 100, not even in the bubbling under range!

Originally from the 1971 album Imagine, "Jealous Guy" by John Lennon - credited to John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band (with The Flux Fiddlers) - was released as a single in 1988 to coincide with the documentary Imagine: John Lennon. On the October 22 Hot 100, it was at its peak of #80.

Debuting at #118 on the Top Pop Albums chart for October 25, 1986 (and eventually reaching #76) was the album Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? by Megadeth. From that album comes the song "Peace Sells", the breakthrough hit for the band and considered one of the best heavy metal songs ever.
