I don't recall seeing The Return Of Bruno mockumentary. Pretty certain we didn't have HBO at the time. Gotta check that out.
I like Respect Yourself. Don't think I had heard any of the other songs on the album until I listened to the Under the Boardwalk clip posted here.

Bananarama's first Hot 100 hit "Shy Boy (Don't It Make You Feel Good)" debuted at #89 this week in 1983; coincidentally, #83 would be where it eventually peaked.

In its last week on the Hot 100, INXS' follow-up to "What You Need" was at #89 this week in 1986; "Listen Like Thieves" had peaked at #54 three weeks earlier.

Down to #44 on Top Tracks (the future Mainstream Rock chart) for this week in 1982, "Black Coffee in Bed" by Squeeze reached a peak of #26 on that chart, as well as a peak of #103 on the Bubbling Under chart.

In its last week on the Hot 100, "Wild, Wild West" by Kool Moe Dee was down to #99 this week in 1988. '99 would also be the year Kool Moe Dee returned to this former #62 hit and sang its chorus for Will Smith's #1 Billboard hit of the same name.

Being a fan of INXS, it's a bit bewildering to me that neither Listen Like Thieves nor This Time managed to follow up on What You Need's success and make the top 40. This video may be part of the reason Thieves didn't do so well. It seems to be INXS performance meets Mad Max. It's a subpar video by just about any standard, but it's especially disappointing given the fantastic video for What You Need. I don't get any storyline here, and it really doesn't showcase the band very much. It's kinda like they had no idea how to promote this song via video. If that's the case, just do concert footage or some such.

It peaked at #61 on the Hot 100, but this week in 1984, Def Leppard's "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" was down to #68. This version was a remix of the original 1981 track from the album High 'n' Dry with added synthesizers; since the original did not chart on its own, it is also posted below.

37 years ago today - July 13, 1985 - was the Live Aid concert in London and Philadelphia. Coincidentally, one of the acts who performed at Live Aid, Patti LaBelle, had a song on the July 13, 1985 Hot 100 which was performed at the show. "Stir It Up" from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack was up to #58 that week and just missed the Top 40 by eventually peaking at #41.

At its peak position of #55 on the July 18, 1981 Hot 100 was Loverboy's follow-up to their first Top 40 hit "Turn Me Loose" - "The Kid Is Hot Tonite".

Alhough this song sneaked in the R&R Top 40 CHR reaches used for Rick Dees Weekly Top 40. Dees must have fiddled with the chart because it did not hit R&R at all. Seems like he altered the chart in several instances in the latter half of the 1990s; wasn't aware of any instances in the 1980s. Also, there were several Sure Shots that I don't even think made his top 40, whatever chart he was using any given week.

It's rare for me to post rap/hip-hop songs in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s threads all in one day, but Rob Base and D.J. E-Z Rock and "Joy and Pain" join Beastie Boys in the 90s thread and Nappy Roots in the 2000s thread today. At #73 on the July 22, 1989 Hot 100, the song was a #58 hit on the chart.

Since I posted "Joy and Pain" by Rob Base and D.J. E-Z Rock on Wednesday, I'm posting the original version of the song by R&B group Maze featuring Frankie Beverly today, coincidentally released this month in 1980 on their album Joy and Pain.

"I Want Action" by Poison didn't get a lot of chart action during its Hot 100 run. This week in 1987, the follow-up to "Talk Dirty to Me" slipped to #57 from its peak of #50 the previous week.
