From May 29, 1982 this lost 80s classic was spending its 8th and final week in the Hot 100, having peaked at #46. It would be over a year before their next Hot 100 single would chart, and there was no holding your breath waiting for it to become a hit. Debuting at #36, it would Top the Hot 100 five weeks later and stay there for 8 weeks. Secret Journey - PoliceGreat Song! I bought the album on vinyl in 81 but was unaware that this song was released as a single and got close to cracking the top 40.

The lost 80s classic from June 7, 1980 was making its debut at #80. The follow up to their only Top 40 single "Set Me Free" would only chart for three weeks and peak at #76. A good rocker from the band led by Todd Rundgren. The Very last Time - Utopia
The lost 80s classic from June 7, 1986 would be the last week he would appear on the Hot 100 as a solo artist. The third solo single from this two time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee had peaked at #84 during a 7 week chart run. Innocent Eyes - Graham Nash

That song from Utopia was excellent - much better than "Set Me Free". It was a hit on the rock stations, and I thought it would eventually do well on the pop charts - but it did not.

His performance on American Bandstand earned him a recurring role as Danny Romalotti on "The Young and the Restless". His cover of an Eric Carmen Top 40 hit would be his first Hot 100 entry. It is a lost 80s classic from June 13, 1981 that would peak at #69 and chart for 6 weeks. It would be nearly 8 years before he charted again. It would also be a cover that would "rock on" all the way to the top of the Hot 100. She Did It - Michael Damian
This great Impressions cover by two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers is this week's lost 80s classic from June 15, 1985. Debuting at #85, the song would peak at #48 and chart for 10 weeks. People Get Ready - Jeff Beck & Rod Stewart

From June 18, 1983, this lost 80s classic is a great track off an underrated album "You Bought It - You Name It". It was bouncing its way up the Hot 100 toward a #52 peak over an 8 week period. It's the artist's unique sarcastic commentary on the changing of entertainment within society during the advent of the video game era. Space Age Whiz Kids - Joe Walsh
This versatile frontman had a brief Hot 100 run as a solo artist this time around with this lost 80s classic from June 18, 1988. This cover of a British Invasion hit for the Searchers was actually written and initially recorded by Jackie DeShannon. Debuting at #92, it would only chart for 3 weeks and peak at #90. Nine months later he would peak at the top of the Hot 100 as lead vocalist for Mike + The Mechanics. When You Walk In The Room - Paul Carrack

One of this band's follow up singles to the #15 "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)", this "kihntagious" lost 80s classic from June 26, 1982 would peak at #62 and chart for 7 weeks. Happy Man - Greg Kihn Band
It was his only Hot 100 entry, but the lost 80s classic from June 27, 1987 was a good one. It was covered by ex-Little River Band member John Farnham in 1990 and went Top 10 in Australia. His original charted for 8 weeks and peaked at #64. That's Freedom - Tom Kimmel

The lost 80s classic from June 28, 1980 was bubbling under for a third and final week at its #103 peak position. Released as a one-off single, the song has become a beloved Chicago classic through the years. Promo copies of the 45 were selling for upwards of $25 during the 80s and 90s. One of the writers of the song once said he didn't believe it was released it commercially. The fact that it bubbled under is indication that it was released. Another telltale sign is that I found a stock copy with picture sleeve about 5 or 6 years ago. Rebel Girl - Survivor
The lost 80s classic from July 5, 1986 was a great mix of grinding 50s guitar work, combined with 80s art rock. It was at its #50 peak position in its eighth week in the Hot 100, and would chart an additional 3 weeks before exiting. The featured guitarist had taken this TV theme to #27 in 1959. Peter Gunn Theme - Art Of Noise Featuring Duane Eddy

From July 7, 1984 this lost 80s classic was the third single issued from Yes's highly successful "90125" release. This great track peaked at #51 during a seven week chart run. It Can Happen - Yes

The lost 80s classic from July 18, 1981 reached its peak #76 position during the song's fourth and final week on the Hot 100. A year later it would prove to be the only Top 40 hit for the songwriter when he released his own version. Someday, Someway - Robert Gordon
After this band reached the Top 10 for the ninth time, they would never reach the Top 40 again. The first of their last two singles to reach the Hot 100 is this week's lost 80s classic from July 16, 1988. Debuting at #89, it would peak at #56 during its 10 week strictly domestic journey. Heart Turns To Stone - Foreigner

July 23, 1983 saw the Police topping the charts with a very creepy song. Michael Jackson was in the midst of releasing basically the whole "Thriller" album as singles. As "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" stalled at #5, he had the highest Hot 100 debut with "Human Nature" at #48 and "Beat It" just exited the Top 40. Meanwhile in the jungle... Debuting at #90 was the first single from a band who would dominate radio airwaves and sales for the remainder of the 80s and beyond. A truly beloved lost 80s classic, it would be a minor success commercially peaking at #78 over a 5 week stay. They would soon be the poster children of the alternative rock era. Radio Free Europe - R.E.M.

This lost 80s classic debuted at #83 on July 31, 1982. The video is so...eighties! On the Hot 100, the song had a short chart life spending 6 weeks on the charts and peaking at #60. Calling All Girls - Queen
They were spending their eighth and final week in the Hot 100, having peaked at #54. This lost 80s classic from July 27, 1985 sounded like a great Springsteen rave-up but it wasn't. A great tune that also had elements of Motown accented by the brass section that was prevalent in the late sixties/early seventies. Make It Better (Forget About Me) - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Though he made a healthy move in his third week moving 80-70, it would be the peak for this Canadian singer/songwriter's only Hot 100 entry. He would go on to write songs for .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, and Eddie Money, but for this lost 80s classic from August 1, 1981 he covered a mid-60s Hollies hit. It would chart for 5 weeks. Pay You Back With Interest - Gary O'
At one point in time, Madonna had been the drummer for this band. They had reached the Top 10 earlier in the year, peaking at #7 with "Right On Track". The lost 80s classic from August 1, 1987 was their other Hot 100 entry. During its 9 weeks on the charts, the song would peak at #48. Kiss And Tell - Breakfast Club

A slightly altered version of this lost 80s classic from August 11, 1984 was featured in the biopic "Straight Outta Compton". Written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis it reached the Top 10 on the R&B and dance charts, but only reached #79 during its 9 week chart run on the Hot 100. It would become a #2 Hot 100 hit for Robert Palmer when released as the fifth single off the "Riptide" album in 1986. Her version is the original. I Didn't Mean To Turn You On - Cherrelle

In the wake of the tragic plane crash that took the lives of several of the bands' members, four former Lynyrd Skynyrd mates were moderately successful forming a new band that released a couple of albums in the 80s. Their only Hot 100 single is this week's lost 80s classic from August 23, 1980. It would chart for 9 weeks and peak at #55. Don't Misunderstand Me - Rossington Collins Band
From August 24, 1985 this lost 80s classic is a very good cover of the Spinners first Top 10 hit. Based in California, the band was formerly known as Chain Reaction and Anthym before settling upon this moniker. During their six week stay in the Hot 100, that band would peak at #62. Trivia: The band's alumni includes former trumpeter turned bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary and Anthony Kledis. I'll Be Around - What Is This?
