Offering a lost classic from 1/17/87, which failed to crack Billboard's top 40. It's an interesting techno-pop remake of a top 10 hit recorded by the Temptations and charted in late 1966, and subsequently recorded and charted by Rare Earth and Rod Stewart:
"(I Know) I'm Losing You" - Uptown

This was an excellent remake. It got pretty decent airplay in Miami.

Before I get to the lost classic for this week's 1987 show, here is my 1989 lost classic for this week. On the 1/14/1989 Hot 100, this debuted & peaked at #97. It's from an act recently named an inductee to this year's Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame class. This act also won the fan vote. I first heard this song on a VH1 special about the worst sexy songs of all time. I for one like this song, although I have no idea what the title means. For my 1/17/1987 lost classic, I'm going with the song that was at #64 this week & would peak the following week at #61. It's by the lead singer of a band who would have a #1 hit later in the summer. She actually had a top 40 solo hit before, but on this song, she's on her own & not in a duet. There is one thing both songs have in common: they both came from movies. This lost classic was in the opening credits to "The Golden Child". Here is the lead singer of Heart who previously teamed up with Loverboy's Mike Reno on "Almost Paradise" from "Footloose". Credited as the abbreviated LRB on the actual single (& the album that this title track came from), Little River Band had a new entry into the Hot 100 at #81 for week ending January 26, 1985 (on their way to a high of #60) with “Playing to Win”. With near complete change of personnel, now shedding their softer rock image from the 1970s days of “Reminiscing” and beyond in favor of a louder, drummier rock, in this their last time on the Hot 100. This lost classic from January 26, 1985 was by a then ex-member of Styx. It was the follow-up to his only Top 40 solo hit, the title track from his album "Girls With Guns". It was at its peak #60 position during the seventh week of a 9 week chart run. Lonely School - Tommy Shaw

Offering a lost classic from 1/26/85, which barely failed to crack Billboard's top 40 (peaking at #41). They "really got me" with this tune:
"Do it Again" - Kinks

Here is my lost classic of the week for 1/21/1989. This song was peaking at #43 this week on the Hot 100, but was at its peak position of #32 on that week's ARC Weekly Top 40. It was one of 2 new tracks from their recently released greatest hits album. This band was in the news recently when one of their lead singers recently rejoined the band. Welcome back Christine! It's now time for my lost classic for 1/26/1985. This song was at #85 & would later peak at #57. It's the first Hot 100 entry for this British act whose other Hot 100 song later in the year would be his only top 40 hit. This song would do better on the dance chart (#2) & the soul chart (a surprising #5!). You won't be hearing any samples from a Vietnam War documentary in this one. Lost classic from February 1, 1986: Everybody Wang Chung tonight! Great song that serves as the soundtrack title to a great movie. Song just missed the top forty peaking at #41 during an 18 week chart run. To Live And Die In L. A. - Wang Chung

His biggest fans, the buyers of his mammoth-selling double live LP ten years earlier, could have been surprised of his drum-oriented-rock of this 1986 lost hit. And what a radical change in direction music-wise. As the homeless man at the end of the following video points out “Hey man , didn’t you used to be Peter Frampton?”. Even his mid-70s fans couldn’t have said it with absolute certainly at least on first listen via records or radio alone without the video’s visuals (big hair and persona intact from that famous live album cover photo). New at #97 for week ending February 1, 1986, on its way to the high of #74 (his very last Hot 100 entry) Lying-Peter Frampton

Offering a lost classic from 2/01/86, which failed to crack Billboard's top 40. It's a hard rocking remake of the Shangri-Las signature song, released in fall 1964:
"Leader of the Pack" - Twisted Sister

For the 1/28/1989 countdown, I'm going with a song that dropped to #76 after peaking the previous 2 weeks at #73. A couple of weeks ago, I posted "The Best Man In The World" by Ann Wilson as a lost '80s classic. I mentioned that it was used in the opening credits to "The Golden Child". Well, this song was used in the opening credits to the Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail". I actually heard this song at the end of Nina Blackwood's '80s show on Z92.5 3 weeks ago. Anyway, the band that does this song features one of BestMusicExpert's favorite lead singers. My lost 1989 classic of the week: "Wild Again" by Starship www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWpHQ8yvbdw
