I was just curious if anyone knew which song spent the least weeks on the top 40 that went to number one on CT 40 (excluding "Two Hearts" and some of the early songs to top the chart because there was no CT 40 when they started their run)?

New Kids On The Block "Step By Step" and Madonna "Justify My Love" - 10 weeks Thanks! "Step By Step" spent four weeks in the top 2, 7 weeks in the Top 10, and just three weeks outside of the Top 10. That's pretty crazy!

Thats 10 weeks more than it belonged. Solid proof that the popularity of New Kids on the Block were getting old fast by that time. Funny thing is, they wanted to regain fame when making their comic book debut in July of that year, when really their career was already done for, and eventually appearing alongside Richie Rich and Wendy The Good Little Witch. I bet those comics didn't sell well.

Your theory also doesn't account for Justify My Loves short time or the fact that a.) it even hit #1 or b.) it stayed there for 2 weeks.

TBH, sales of Wendy and Richie Rich themselves by the late 1980s weren't exactly great to begin with. Most of the Archie/Harvey/other lines directed towards the children's market probably depended more on checkout sales than they did in traditional comic retail markets.
