This past weekend, Casey played the song "Hold Me" by Fleetwood Mac as a dedication from a woman to a guy she was reunited with at her 20 year class reunion. The song was one from their graduation year (1982).
I found myself wondering if this dedication would have seen the light of day at all if Casey were still hosting AT40. Let me clarify...
It's common knowledge now that the dedication songs are often changed when they don't fit a given format, and I'd say it's highly unlikely that AT40 would have played a 20+ year old Fleetwood Mac song. However, there's no way (without rewriting the letter) that Casey's staff could have simply replaced the song with something CHR-friendly.
So what do you think? If this letter had come along six months ago, would it still have been read on the air? If so, what would they have done for AT40?

I Don't know if the people at American Top 40 would use that song as a Long Distance Dedication. I am sure that many of the CHR music fan wouldn't be Fleetwood Mac fans, especially any Fleetwood Mac songs that came out back in 1982. But, then again, you never know. Maybe there are some CHR music fans who are big Fleetwood Mac fans.

That's my point. I know they wouldn't have used the song, and yet they really could not have replaced it without altering the wording of the letter. That's what made me wonder if the letter could have been used at all if Casey was still hosting AT40.
