Well I'll be...I wish it were as funny as 'hold me closer, Tony Danza', then I'd feel better. Obviously Asia didn't spring for the printed lyrics in the album back then

Don't wanna read 10 pages but someone I was talking to earlier said they thought Brother Louie has outdated lyrics. On one hand, yes, in 73 it was more surprising for there to be interracial couples/marriages. Not as much as it is today.
On the other hand it still causes family problems so maybe not.

If I counted records which charted prior to 1970 the list could be endless. So I'll just stick with songs from American Top 40 (1970-1995). Here's a lyric: "Los Angeles, give me Norfolk, Virginia, TIdewater 4-1009" ("Promised Land," Elvis Presley) Even back in 1974, when that song was a hit, I was too young to remember phone numbers being like that. (I was eleven) And I woke up high over Albuquerque On a jet to the promised land Working on a T-bone steak a la carte TBone over Albuquerque? Not on my recent flights.

And I woke up high over Albuquerque On a jet to the promised land Working on a T-bone steak a la carte TBone over Albuquerque? Not on my recent flights. Just for laughs, I checked my schedule collection: Chuck Berry recorded "Promised Land" in 1964, ten years before Elvis did it. In the song, Chuck is flying from Houston to LA. In 1964, the two carriers flying that route nonstop were Continental and National. Looking at the 7/29/64 Continental schedule, there was a nonstop dinner flight between the two cities, flight 53. Leaving Houston (Hobby Airport at that time, IAH had not yet been built) at 5:40PM Central Time, arriving LAX at 7:30PM Pacific Time. A "Golden Jet" Boeing 707 or 720 with three-class service: First Class (4 seats per row), Club Coach (5 across), and Economy (the standard coach 3 and 3). While meals were not served in economy Class, both First and Club Coach did get a full dinner service. A T-Bone steak, I'm sure, would have been an option solely for those in the front cabin (along with free cocktails). The cost, one way? $108.85 First Class, $85.30 Club Coach (the best value, in my opinion), and $72.80 Economy.

Rockin' Rod sang "give me a dime so I can phone my mother" in Do You Think I'm Sexy. Another Rockin' Rod from You Wear It Well: "I don't object if you call collect"

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, though it's fairly obscure: Neil Diamond -- If You Know What I Mean: "And we gave it away for the sake of a dream in a penny arcade" A what? Another from Diamond. Not sure anyone would claim LA rents are low today. LA's fine, the sun shines most the time The feeling is laid back Palm trees grow and the rents are low

In "Sylvia's Mother" by Dr. Hook: "...operator says 40 cents more for the next three minutes..."
Also the entire reference to the 1984 Sammy Hagar song "l Can't Drive 55" is now obsolete, well since the mid-90s anyway.

On Ronnie Milsap's #1 country song he mentions:
"99 & 44⁄100 percent Pure Love". Huh? Sounds like a commercial for a soap that is so pure it floats to the top of the water, not a song.

Add 54/100th of a percent and you get Crystal Waters' "100% Pure Love". Subtract 54/100th of a percent and. Ah never mind!
Actually you have to add 56/100th of a percent. Thank you Crystal for rounding off that number. Can't deal with fractions!

In the song “Bluer Than Blue”, Michael Johnson sings, “I don't have to miss no tv shows”, talking about live TV of course. Now, when the song was released in 1978, the VCR was already started getting mass-produced. But probably, most TV homes did not own one. (Even in a year or two, some people preferred to rent the VCRs, as the video stores rented the equipment as well as the tapes. Well those early VCRs could cost well over $1000 in the late 70s by the 1978 dollars.)
The other song I’ve been meaning to mention is “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” by Stevie Wonder… specially the opening dialogue when Stevie Wonder say, “Cause like I been to…y’know…Iraq, Iran, Eurasia”. Well world was a different place in 1974, but regardless it’s probably safe to say if Stevie Wonder was going to re-write the song from scratch in 2015, those two countries wouldn’t have been mentioned.

"Madame Onassis" was Jacqueline Kennedy, JFK's wife and first lady. After his death, she married shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis (he died sometime in the 1970's). She died in 1994.

Here's one from before AT40 (from "Bossa Nova Baby, " a #8 hit for Elvis Presley in 1963):
"And if you lend me a dollar, we can buy some gas and we can go for a little ride."
Today, a VERY little ride, I must say.

Not a top 40 but a long time seasonal classic. Beach Boys: Little St. Nick
"But she'll walk a toboggan with a four speed stick"
