Just found out this weekend's show is the Top 40 of 2012. My guess is next week's show will be the same exact thing....with different extras and different ads. What a letdown.

Why? Not sure why you'd expect anything different when they have done this method two years now already. Unless there is a change in radio, songs moving at a much faster rate, and radio countdown interest in general there will never be another top 100.

Interesting. The last time there was a Top 100 (2009), there actually was one song on it that I don't believe ever made it onto the top 40 weekly charts. I suppose if they continued, there would be at least 1 or 2 like that every year.

WHTZ (Z-100) in New York City will be airing their own year end countdown over the holidays.

I bet this "year-end top 40" trend is the norms for Ryan's AT40 now.

I bet this "year-end top 40" trend is the norms for Ryan's AT40 now. It's a trend with all countdowns pretty much. Dees will do a 40 and Kix Brooks will do a 40 probably. Helton does a 2 part 70 but his show is 3 hours long, and Bob Kingsley will do 50, but its the standard 4 hour show.

As I've said before (the last two years), broadcasting the same top 40 over two weekends is the worst way to fill the year end time slots. Either do a full top 100, or, failing that, do a regular weekly countdown this week and the year end countdown next. Get a guest host for the regular show if needed.
