I heard through the proverbial grapevine that there are a few deletions for the countdown being broadcast this weekend on terrestrial radio-The playdate is 4/10/71-The following extras will not be heard:"Just A Dream","Soul & Inspiration","Honky Tonk",& "Mercedes Benz"-"Honky Tonk" is one of the best instrumental hits of the entire rock era-"Mercedes Benz" wasn't released as a follow up to Janis Joplin's "Me & Bobby Mc Gee",but it's a classic rock song,nevertheless-What was Premiere thinking?

Did anyone catch Ed McMahon's mistake? He played Layla by Derek and the Dominoes as an extra and said it never made the top 40. It's true the short version didn't make it, but the long version, which he played, peaked at #10 in the summer of 72.

I believe that when "Layla" made the top 40 in 1972,the full-length version was played-Can anyone confirm this?-By the way,Layla was the nickname Eric Clapton gave to Patti Boyd, who was married to former Beatle George Harrison-It turns out that Eric was deeply infatuated with her-This strained Eric's friendship with George quite a bit-Eventually,George & Patti divorced-In 1979,Eric married Patti,so this story had a happy ending.

A quick correction here:Ed Mc Mahon, who was Johnny Carson's long time sidekick on "The Tonight Show",isn't the announcer on "AT 40-The 70's" & "AT40-The 80's"-However,Ed Mc Mann is-He does the midday show on WWBB in Providence,RI,which also happens to be an "AT 40-The 70's" affiliate.

Thanks Mrjukebox for the correction. I do not have any AT40 shows from the summer of 72, but according to Pete Battistini's book, the long version of Layla was only played once on AT40 on 7/15/72. An edited long version was played on the 1972 year end countdown.

In fact his affiliate also has the highest quality stream of any station that I've ever listened online to AT40 the 70s on!

Lately,I've been listening to "AT40-The 70's" on B-101-I have to agree with you about their stream-It's outstanding-By the way,"The Graduate" happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time.
