If you've read Pete Battistini's book,he goes into great detail about his initial exposure to "AT40"-This got me to thinking:When did you first start listen to "AT40"-I'm hoping this will generate a large number of responses-Speaking for myself,I began listening in May 1974-I don't recall the exact date, but the #1 song was "The Streak" by Ray Stevens-I was attending a private school in the northeastern part of Connecticut-I was about two hours from Hartford, which meant I heard the show on WDRC-When I was home for the summer,I heard the show faithfully each Sunday morning on WPIX-FM in New York City.

the first exposure of AT40 for me was around the summer of 1978...i remember the battle for the top spot between #2 baker street and #1 shadow dancing. i must have heard the countdown 3 different times on 2 stations....KJR seattle had the countdown saturday morning and sunday night (i didn't get that station well, where i was living, but i listened nonetheless), and sunday mornings on KGW portland. i followed it TOO well...i was writing down the top 40 each week and cut out a copy of the top 40 that was in the paper and i was 10 years old

May 16, 1999 - #1 was "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None The Richer. I had just turned 9 in March. The station was Kiss 108 (WXKS/Boston, MA)

My first time was on June 14, 1980. AT40 was on KYA at the time, and the number-one song that week was "Funky Town."

I don't remember the exact date that I first heard AT40. It was in the spring of 1978, on KYA in San Francisco and "Night Fever" was number one. A few weeks later begining with the May 20, 1978 show I became hooked and listed to the program regularly.

The first show I ever heard was 8/27/77 on WBT in Charlotte NC. Best Of My Love by the Emotions was #1, but what i remember most from that show was Casey's tribute to Elvis. He played a live version of Suspicious Minds. Ten years later on 8/15/87, he played the same live version again as a LDD which also marked the 10th anniversary of his passing.

8/8/81 - I was 7 years old.
My parents had bought me a transistor radio, and I listened mostly to KTKT-AM (Tucson). I heard a commercial for AT40 and decided to tune in that Sunday. My favorite song was Jesse's Girl, and I patiently sat through 39 songs hoping it would be on the countdown. Sure enough, it was spending it's second week at #1. I was hooked.

I first listened in April 1983 (I was 9) and became hooked immediately. For the next 4-5 years, I was only a sporadic listener due to the show constantly changing time slots and that pesky problem of having to go to bed before it was over! Beginning in December 1987, I listened non-stop every week until its cancellation in 1994.

1971 was the year that AT40 came to my home town...I don't remember much from that first summer--other than "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" being number one for all of August. My first scratchy cassette recordings of AT40 are from early 1972--"Without You" from Nilsson was number one at the time.

My first exposure was to AT20 in early 2000. By 2001 I was hooked on all of the shows.

I may have heard it earlier, but the first clear memory I have of Casey counting 'em down was during the summer of '78, on WGGG-AM in Gainesville, FL. I don't remember the exact date, but it was when "Shadow Dancing" was near the top (which doesn't narrow it down much). It wasn't until early '81 that I started listening on a regular basis (I got my first cassette recorder on my tenth birthday that February, and taped all my favorite songs off AT40).

As you may have read in the other thread, the first number one I remember hearing is "Up Where We Belong" in the early 80s. I'm sure I listened to it before then though, as my dad listened to it in the 70s. I listened as often as I could until the station moved AT40 to a 6pm time slot after Shadoe took over. Then I listened much less frequently, and I ended up following Dees and the R&R chart instead.

First Time I heard AT 40 was the Top 100 of 1981. I was 11 years old then and my dad had it on in the Car. I remember hearing "Lady" By Kenny Rogers @ #3.
