I have the vinyl records for the 6/5/76 show and "Moonlight Feels Right" was not edited down in the original broadcast.

The last 30 seconds or so of Invisible Touch on the 6/21/1986 show was edited out. Was it last that when it aired originally?
It might not be considered painful, but I wasn't expecting it.

I think it was edited out in the original broadcast, since I know someone who has that show and he mentioned that Casey outroed the song and faded it out right before the last chorus. Besides, it would be kind of hard to alter the voice track so it started 30 seconds before the end of the song (and wouldn't make sense anyway - it would have been more practical to just edit out a verse.

Telephone Line by Electric Light Orchestra debuting at #39 was butchered on this week's show, July 9th, 1977 (7/9/1977) it clocks in at 2:10!

trekkielo, that's nothin'. Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' had the 2nd verse cut, where Stevie Nicks slips the title in there, for the only time!

At least that was its debut week, and would stay on AT40 for 16 weeks, so we should hear it at least once more from Premiere this year. If a clue given about the 1980s shows is correct, the only time we're hearing "Invisible Touch" in a Premiere countdown this year is the truncated version from 6/21/86.

Oddly, they butchered DEVIL'S GUN, in its debut week, but they keep KILLING OF GEORGIE in its almost entirely!

True, I understand what you're saying, but my point being Casey Kasem's AT40 usually treats debut songs like ELO with a lot more respect than here!

I think AT 40 waited a year too long back in 1978 when it was switched to the four hour format. I have a few shows from early to mid 1978 and man they are a handful of songs that were butchered. I never could quite understand why debut songs got that treatment. To me it would be more reasonable to edit songs on their way out of the countdown.

its funny certain songs are edited and sometimes you will hear them and they are not. For example. the groove line by heatwave was played at least once unedited. but most times it was severely chopped..

I checked the original cue sheet, and the first segment, with the intro, "Handy Man", and "Telephone Line" came in at 7:52, which isn't especially short for two full songs, unless Casey did an unusual amount of talking. Maybe it was Premiere that chopped the ELO song down? (I haven't heard the countdown yet).
Funny thing about "Devil's Gun": it was on the Hot 100 for 29 weeks, and only two of them were in the top 40. And this show is the only one containing it that Premiere will play (the following week was guest hosted.)

It appears that Premiere did chop down Telephone Line by Electric Light Orchestra for this week's presentation of July 9th, 1977 (7/9/77) because its opening segment as taken from CKWW on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013, clocks in at about 6:20, not 7:52, a difference of 1:32, which sounds about right!

Premiere can either redeem themselves or really fan the flames of their editing prowess. ELO also has a debut record at #39 on the 80s show this week. It is the first song in the second segment with the first segment featuring last week's #1 and this week's #40 song.

Thanks, yeah, that would be Rock 'n' Roll Is King, I thought it was an interesting coincidence they had one debut in each decade's countdown and both at #39 from this week exactly 6 years apart (1977-1983)

And it was number 100 on Billboards top 100 song of 1977 list, and for some reason AT40 made their own top 100 list for 1977, unlike previously, which had some on this board speculate they did not want to start the top 100 countdown with a song that only peaked at #36 and only heard on two shows, unlike tunes like Ariel or Whispering, hence why they did their own calculation that year (or used another top 100 chart)
