Just for fun, every once in a while, I try to come up with a special chart that could've been counted down as a special. Here's one I made up for the Hot AC chart, the Top Songs of Labor Day. These are songs that peaked near Labor Day weekend (any song that peaked September 1 -7). These are based on the Radio and Records/Mediabase charts:

I'll take that baton and come up with a list of my own – the top No. 1 hits of Labor Day, 1970-present. This list spans all of the hosts' eras – Casey, Shadoe and Ryan, and including even the 3 years-plus that the show wasn't on the air.

A couple of notes:

• Obviously, this is still a work in progress, with actually rating the songs. So far, it's generally by weeks spent at No. 1. I may add in big top 5 songs, too, and ex- and future-No. 1 songs that were still/were just riding strong in the top 5.
• Even though Chicago had not yet reached the top with "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" in 1982, it did trade places with the Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra."
• Also, since it traded places with the Emotions' "Best of My Love" in 1977, I'm also including Andy Gibb and "I Just Want to Be Your Everything."

There you have it. A selection of straight pop, rock, rhythm and blues, social protest, disco, new wave, electro-dance, rap and country, to name just a few genres. Everyone from Paul Anka to Taylor Swift on this list. Enjoy.

Your list is cool too. I only did the Hot AC chart, with R&R first published in April 1994. That's why it only goes to the mid 1990s. I only did songs that actually reached their peak on a date of September 1 -7. If they had already hit #1 before September 1, there weren't considered.
