I'm assuming that you heard this weekend's 1978 show and thus know about Andy Gibb being at #40 with "An Everlasting Love" and on top with "Shadow Dancing", correct?

Michael Jackson did this in 1987 ("Bad" was at #40; "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" was at #1). I remember Casey mentioning that aside from the possibility of "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" hitting #1, MJ was at the bottom of the survey, debuting at #40 with "Bad". Also, a bit off-topic, but Stevie Wonder performed on both ends of the Top 100 of 1986 - #100 was "Go Home" and #1 was Stevie Wonder performing with Dionne & Friends on "That's What Friends Are For".

Donny Osmond effectively did that on 9/18/71, when he was at #1 solo with "Go Away Little Girl" and he and his brothers debuted at #40 with "Yo-Yo".

Ryan is pretty good about mentioning songs that bookend the countdown. The last time was April 2019 when Ariana Grande did it with “God is a woman” at #40 and “7 rings” at #1.

This just happened on the current AT40 for two consecutive weeks for what may be the first time ever. The June 12 and 19, 2021 countdowns both have Justin Bieber at #1 with “Peaches” and at #40 with “Holy” (which earlier peaked at #2).
