Consider it an early present for Independence Day! The Top 100 A&M Records Hits in the 20th Century... [glow=red,2,300]http://www.adrive.com/public/whKkhK/MERCA&Mtop 100Countdown.zip[/glow] Now, do NOT click the link as I stupidly added a space in the file name. Copy and paste everything in red (from http to .zip) into your browser to get to the page. This countdown includes 40 or so different artists who had hits on A&M Records between its inception in 1962 and 1999. There is a HUGE array of music styles on the show and many artists even missed the survey all together! Possible included artists are: Free, Styx, Supertramp, Gin Blossoms, Soundgarden, Stealers Wheel, The Carpenters, The Brothers Johnson, The Police, Herb Alpert, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Falco, Janet Jackson, Brenda Russell, Barry White, Nazareth, Bazuka, Captain & Tennille, Bryan Adams, etc.... Its an amazing array of music! As always feedback is welcome and encouraged, good, bad or indifferent... NEW: I made up a cue sheet because a few people asked so here it is: www.adrive.com/public/KGSRu3/MERCA&MSpecialCueSheet.wpsENJOY!

I've been trying to copy and paste the link for this countdown to my browser, but I keep getting a message saying "No results found." Is there any other way to download this show?

You need to remove the space in the middle of the address between top and 100.

I haven't listened to the entire thing yet, but from what I heard I liked. I have most of the songs already in my collection, but like AT40 shows its the stories behind the songs that I like best. Great job.

Thank you, I tried to balance the stories with facts and occasional chart data (Especially when some artists are in there several times... Plus I used alot of single mixes that are only available on the 45's.

It's amazing how few 60s songs were on the list, but maybe that's because chart runs were so short back then, that songs didn't rack up enough points to make the Top 100 (I noticed the only 60s songs that made the list all went to #1 on the AC chart - only "This Guy's In Love With You" also hit #1 on the Hot 100).
The high ranking of "Black Hole Sun" also surprised me, but that may be because of the rock tracks chart (I assume it spent a lot of weeks at #1 - don't have my Whitburn books with me to check).
Also amazing how Supertramp didn't make the list, despite the number of hits they had.
Was there anything that hit #1 (on any of the charts) that didn't make the Top 100? I know "Can't Stop This Thing We Started" by Bryan Adams hit #2 on the Hot 100 and that didn't make it.

If it hit #1 for A&M it made the countdown. #1 on other charts id account for some of the positions, yes.
Black Hole Sun was a 7 week #1 on the Rock Charts.
I felt it fair to account for #1 on AC, R&B & Rock charts because that meant they got alot of airplay on those formats and thus did well for the label.
Supertramp came in at #106 with Logical Song and the next closest was in the 120's (Take The Long Way Home) Trust me, as a HUGE Supertramp fan, it KILLED me for them to not make the top 100. So thats part of why I did the 2 medleys of artists who failed to make it.
Then again I understand it. With over 340 songs in the time frame that were eligable, there was bound for some of the over 80 artists that hit the charts to miss the countdown!
As for Bryan Adams, That one got handicapped a little because over half of its chart run was in the soundscan period. I tried to make it fair for all the hits to be even. (That one ranked in the 120's as well)
Not alot charted for A&M in the 60's. (Joe Cocker didn't hit until the 70's, Herb Alpert had short chart runs mainly and Sergio Mendes only had 3 hits. (Look Of Love came in at #121) And thats just about it for A&M 60's hits.

That was another thing I thought about the 60s songs - that there weren't as many songs hitting the chart back then.
Also, just curious why the countdown only went up to 1999? And approximately how many songs would have made the list if 2000s hits were included?

Very few if any. In 1998 A&M was sold. Pretty much The girl thingycat Dolls and Black Eyed Peas would have been about it as they were on A&M label.
