You can add Fleetwood Mac to the list. Before the band was formed Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie went into a studio and jammed, called the jam "Fleetwood Mac". Later they decided to form a group and named themselves after the jam.

"Go West" is another example. It was a song title by The Village People back in the late 1970s (not sure if it made the Top 40 or if it charted at all). That disco song title later became a name of a British band who was best known for "King of Wishful Thinking" and "Faithful".
Personally, I like "Don't Look Down (The Sequel)" better.
And also, "Loverboy" was a hit for Billy Ocean early in 1985 - during an era that the Canadian band of the same name was hot on the charts.

The song wasn't a hit, but Boyz II Men got their name from a New Edition song called "Boys to Men".
It peaked at #45 on 7/7/1979.
