In the opening to the October 10, 1970 show, Casey listed the songs that fell out of the top 40. ".........Aretha Franklin's 'Don't Play That Song'. Ok we won't !".

One of the memorable ones: on the 12/26/87 program in the intro to New Order's "True Faith", where he pokes fun at Bernard Sumner's many name changes and ends the intro by doing Shaggy saying "Scooby-Doo has a nice ring to it"! Made me chuckle...
Generally speaking, there were a number of moments in the last year or so of the first run where Casey either laughed or made some sort of pun regarding an artist or song title.

Generally speaking, there were a number of moments in the last year or so of the first run where Casey either laughed or made some sort of pun regarding an artist or song title. The same thing goes for the last year or two of his second AT40 run. I'm listening to shows from 2002-03 now and at least once or twice a month there's a chuckle or full-on laugh from him.

On August 8, 1970 (the fifth AT40 ever aired) Casey started off with a relatively long talkover describing (but not naming) some of the acts and chart action in that week's countdown, ending with "We'll hear that and all four of this week's debut tunes in the first hour of American Top 40. We will, that is, if I start the countdown". I found that kind of funny.

Me too along what I posted about at the top of this page. That's 2 funny intros to the shows in 1970 and I think there were 1 or 2 more that year. ;D

On the 11/8/86 show, Casey acted like a Valley boy in his intro of Toto's "I'll Be Over You," similar to Moon Zappa....lol.

The 2002 AT40/AT20 story on the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra was one of the rare moments where Casey truly couldn't contain himself with laughter. Also, on that same episode, Casey also chuckled after "Hot In Herre" by Nelly was played. Not sure why.

In Pete B's book,"AT40-The 80's",he mentions that Casey supposedly said "Let's twist again like we did last summer" on the 8/15/87 show that Premiere is airing this weekend.

On the countdown from 1/20/73,Casey told a brief story about Donna Fargo's days as a high school English teacher-When she left to pursue a recording career, her students held up a banner that said "She learned us English"-Before Casey played her second hit "Funny Face",he said "Here she are"-That was hysterical.

^another great moment! And just two months earlier (on 11-25-72), Casey gaves us an unforgettable singing voice sample of his cartoon character Shaggy, while introducing "Something's Wrong With Me".

And remember, this stuff actually carries even more weight than it seems, since most shows (what, post Dick Clark, right?) were voicetracked or the equivalent -- so someone *made the decision not to retrack the break*. I was reading this - posters' names off to the side - and all of a sudden it dawned on me to check who posted this. Yup. My brother. post Dick Clark - is that a post on Dick Clark or did we forget a hyphen to imply "after"? Confused. Nothing new. Growing up with someone doesn't always imply the ability to mindread. And, sadly, due to the lack of email notifications (I went and googled it) he probably won't ever read this. Even if he does clarify, I probably won't ever know. I know I posted the question but I'm not going to remember which of many threads it was in. So if someone knows the status of email notifications, or why this forum doesn't use them (seems they would be great for retention - something recently mentioned - people who post, then just go away and are never seen again) PM me, so I don't miss your reply. Fun reading these. But I'm almost done.

thanks to michaelcasselman for pointing out where the email notifications are hidden. Even after reading the instructions after googling to see if it were even possible to get notifications from proboards, I still didn't see it. Okay, I finally see it. thanks

When Blink 182 was on the countdown, probably in 2001 or 2002, at least once, Casey mentioned the name of their album, "Take Off Your Pants & Jacket." Apparently, he didn't notice the pun, or he probably wouldn't have said it.
Also, I liked anytime he did Shaggy's voice. He did it at least once in the '90s when the artist Shaggy was on the countdown, once when Tonic was on the countdown (he ended the story by saying "zoinks!"), and then again in the 2000s on AT10 when the spotlight was "famous falsettos." He listed the reasons why someone would use a falsetto voice aside from singing(imitating a female, ventriloquist, mimicking, cartoon voice) and ended that introduction with "zoinks!"

In a September 1992 Casey's Top 40 show, Casey chuckles as he says the name, "Toad the Wet Sprocket".
