Good article. Got to give the author credit for keeping track of those wacky WT40 Charts.

Rick is a legend in radio, and by all accounts a great human being.

I agree. I'd rather Rick over Ryan any day nowadays!

I actually prefer Ryan to Rick. Rick's a great guy, but I just never found his comedy bits and staged interviews and parody songs to be funny. Although the rare chance I get to hear him these days, he's much more focused on the music than he once was. But I'd take Ryan over 80s/90s Rick

Stay neutral and say each has +/- depending your interests.

Maybe I shouldn't admit that but I enjoy them most weeks I hear it.

My favorite bit is Dr. Science. I love his answer to "does yeast feel pain when it is baked?" I like the James Brown & Whitney Houston car alarm. I can't get enough of "we play more music, here's 10 at a time...hey, hey that's 10-in-a-row one at a time. Oh, Sorry!" I love the bonehead award. The liners "we're naked is that okay", "do these look like the beasts of 40 year old woman?", "he never lets me have it." are timeless classics. I will never forget his reaction to WLSD being on his station mentions.
Funny thing, those were the call letters of a pretend station that my neighbor and me created in high school. We made hats etc. for this WLSD station and did phony broadcasts at the local county fair. To hear, Rick Dees say, "This is WLSD. You're kidding me. This is real. WLSD." That moment is frozen in time to what we did in high school. It's hard to believe a pretend radio station was real. Thanks Rick, I knew you would know.
As far as Rick as a person, last year Rick was kind enough to send me one of his old cart machines (UPS I might add at his expense). I talked with Melanie Leech on his staff and she was a sweetheart. Rick surrounds himself with some great people. I only have kind words to say about Rick and the same goes for Casey Kasem when I met him in 1990. They show a true concern for their fans and it shows in their broadcasts.
