There are still many #1 songs that have not been played when they were at #1 by Premiere. This list only includes songs which spent 3 or more weeks at #1. And it is based on lists of shows played on other threads. In chronological order.....Song title, weeks at #1, date of week that it hit #1. The Streak...3....5/18/74 Bad Blood....3....10/11/75 Fly, Robin, Fly...3...11/29/75 MacArthur Park...3...11/11/78 Do Ya Think I'm Sexy...4...2/10/79 Reunited.........4........5/5/79 Hot Stuff......3.....6/2/79 Bad Girls......5.....7/14/79 My Sharona....6.....8/25/79 Escape........3......12/22/79 Funkytown.....4.....5/31/80 Jack & Diane....4....10/2/82 Maneater......4......12/18/82 Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go....3....11/17/84 Careless Whisper......3......2/16/85 Can't Fight This Feeling.....3....3/9/85 Say You Say Me.....4.......12/21/85 Walk Like an Egyptian.....4....12/20/86 Alone..................3....7/11/87 One More Try......3.....5/28/88
Some of these have not a chance yet such as Hot Stuff or Bad Girls because Premiere only recently started playing shows from 1979. I expect at least one of those 2 and My Sharona to be played while at #1 this year.

Now that really bites. I was reading some of the older posts on this thread and one of them says that Gonna Fly Now was deprived of its show at the top. Bites on 2 counts....one that is the first theme from a Rocky movie to hit #1. But the one that really bites? That is the first and as far as I know only record to make a 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 climb to #1. Ouch!

Wow Donna Summer also got caught up in the "change to 4 hour show" with MacArthur Park in November 1978, as AT 40 went to a 4 hour format October 7, 1978. IMHO that was way overdue as songs were getting longer and AT 40 kept chopping the songs or cutting them off before completion. Yes the list will be greatly diminished this year and next year as Premiere is rotating more evenly, and the show is just four years old too, so way more #1s will be heard by the end of next year. Knowing your statistical knowledge you'll be taking them off your list. ;D Also Escape may not be heard for a while as normally from late December to early January Premiere features yearend shows.

Funkytown.....4.....5/31/80 Jack & Diane....4....10/2/82 Maneater......4......12/18/82 Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go....3....11/17/84 Careless Whisper......3......2/16/85 Can't Fight This Feeling.....3....3/9/85 Say You Say Me.....4.......12/21/85 Walk Like an Egyptian.....4....12/20/86 Alone..................3....7/11/87 One More Try......3.....5/28/88 Keep in mind for some of these that not all of their weeks will be available due to guest-hosting, the end of the year, or specials. For example, "Maneater" hit #1 on 12/18/82, but the following two weeks were the Top 100 of 1982, and then 1/8/83 was guest-hosted, so there will only be one opportunity to play it at #1. Or in the case of "Alone"...its first two weeks were both guest-hosted. Also, you can cross "Can't Fight This Feeling" off the list; 3/9/85 was aired last year. Also Escape may not be heard for a while as normally from late December to early January Premiere features yearend shows. Well, its sole week that's playable is 12/22/79, but quite frankly I don't think that date will hurt it at all - I would say Premiere has quite a bit of freedom with later December dates because they're somewhat less-bound to play a show matching directly with the date of whatever the last weekly December show they play is. (i.e. if the last weekly show is scheduled for the weekend of December 17, they might decide to air a show like 12/28/85 as the last weekly show of the year before going into year-end shows)

But interestingly enough, "Escape" COULD be played on AT 40 the 80's as it returned to #1 on January 12, 1980 for one additional week.

Who is Mike Cleary? I don't think that January 1980 week for Escape will work because I am quite sure that it was guest-hosted. I knew I would forget at least one song. I thought it would be one of the Wham songs. Wham might be the only artist with at least 3 #1 songs that have never been played while at #1 unless you count the top 100 of 1985. (Although a lot of people consider Careless Whisper to be a George Michael song because it was originally released in the UK under his name only). Don't be misled by my statistical knowledge. I had to look up all of that data either through other thread listings of shows played or a Joel Whitburn book for the #1 songs. Good point whoever wrote about the end of year #1s not having many chances, in most cases only 1, to be played.

Hmmm...I just have put 2 and 2 together. Actually I think Mike Cleary would like it because he would get royalties or whatever these people would get of their shows were played.
