Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons's website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death.
It is unclear whether Yauch's cancer was the cause of his passing.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter.

It was three weeks ago that The Beastie Boys were inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-This is truly a sad day for their fans.

He was my favorite. One of the few white acts/artists who get praise instead of calls of lame in a largely black medium.
Plus unlike mos rap acts, they actually played their own instruments and didn't rely heavily on samples, though they did use them, just not usually as the basis for a song, say like Puff Daddy Doody Diddy.
He was 47 BTW.
