When an artist or group releases a new album and promotes it on TV, is it unusual for them to perform a different song than the one chosen as the lead single? I ask this because Wilson Phillips' new album (singing their parents' hits) called Dedicated came out this week and they've been making the TV rounds promoting the album (as well as their reality show on the TV Guide Network). The song they've been singing in their all their appearances so far is California Dreamin', yet the lead single is Good Vibrations. I don't understand why they just didn't have California Dreamin' be the first single instead if that's the one being performed on TV; if Good Vibrations doesn't do well on the AC/Hot AC charts, I will not be surprised.

Hmm, interesting question. I haven't noticed that much. The only example of a contemporary band that I follow is Fitz & The Tantrums--when they've played shows, they play the single they are currently pushing (first was "Moneygrabber", second was "Don't Gotta Work It Out".)
