As a reminder,Antenna TV begins airing "WKRP In Cincinnati" next Sunday (4/8)-Showtime is 8:00 PM-Eastern Time-7 PM Central Time-It'll be interesting to see if we hear the original songs or the generic music that was used in the DVD release of Season 1 that was released a few years ago.

My best guess is, it will probably use generic music instead of the actual songs. We can blame the RIAA for this issue. Copyrighted music is what's preventing most of the 1980s episodes of Alvin & The Chipmunks from airing on TV again, or even appearing on DVD. There was also one episode of the Punky Brewster cartoon series where "Axel F" was played in the episode about dancing shoes - that hasn't aired since 1989, and needless to say, it wasn't included in the Punky Brewster DVD set in recent years. It's sad what the RIAA is doing to a lot of older shows and why we will never see them again. Anyone who has recorded them back in the day likely has a true collectors' item for sure.

So, with WKRP in Cincinnati debuting last Sunday, what season did Antenna TV start with? And did they play the episodes with actual songs or the generic music used in the DVD set?

They did the pilot in 2 parts another episode I forget which and the 4th episode were they sponsored a concert by a British band called scum. I only caught the 4th episode so couldn't tell you if they edited the music out. I also barely watched the series before and people on their facebook page said they did. But I did notice that they did have a issue of Cashbox in the lobby of the station.

A little update it seems they don't cut all the music out. Last night they played the episode "I Do, I Do... For Now" and they had Jennifer's doorbell ring and it played "Fly Me To The Moon". The episode after that "Young Master Carlson" they actually played "Soul Man" by Sammy and Dave at the end of the episode.

That may also explain why the 1978 Alan Freed biopic, American Hot Wax, has never come out on video (VHS or DVD).

These songs may have been left in if they are now public domain, I'm not sure.
