This topic may have been covered before so my apologies in advance. I was listening to my CD copy of the 5-14-77 show and noticed that in its 4th week on the chart, the flip side of Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up"--"Part 2"-- was still being played in place of the "A" side. I find it amazing that as the song was at #9,none of the producers/engineers caught the fact that they were playing the wrong side that high into its chart run! I believe it was finally corrected in its 5th week. Makes me wonder who was in charge of locating the proper version for the songs over the years? And thats not the only instance. I do recall the wrong songs being played when the Osmonds debuted in 1975("The Proud One")and a Bad Company song that same year. Anybody else recall the wrong song or version making the 40 as the product of some kind of error? Didn't it happen to Rod Stewart early on in the 70's?

1. Glass Bottle-I Ain't Got Time Anymore (1971, 2 out of its 3 weeks) Flip side was played
2. Rod Stewart-Angel (1972, only week in the 40) Flip side was played
3. Diana Ross/Marvin Gaye-You're A Special Part Of Me (debut week Oct 1973) I think it was this one it might have been My Mistake in 1974, just going off the top of my head. Flip side was played.
4. Andy Gibb-Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away) 1/6/79, they inadvertently played An Everlasting Love instead.
5. James Last Band-The Seduction (1980, debut week, they played the soundtrack version by Giorgio Moroder. James Last was more of a cover version)
That's what I can think of off the top of my head, in addition to the Bad Co and Osmonds one mentioned above.
It seems like there was a Paul Anka record in 1975 that a different sounding version was played.
Of course I didn't include versions that were different but were played intentionitly. eg: You Don't Bring Me Flowers

On American Country Countdown there was a week in March 1978 when Ava Barber debuted with "Bucket To The South". The wrong song was played, and it wasn't a B side. It sounded more like an R & B song, and I still haven't been able to figure it out.

More recently, "Wifey" by Next (which spent two weeks on AT40 in 2000) was only played during its second week. The first week they played a completely different song by a different R&B group that didn't chart at all (can't remember what it was). That's the only wrong-song-played that I'm aware of since AT40's return in 1998.

Yes, but a replacement of that segment WAS sent out in an effort to prevent the wrong song from airing. So half-props to AMFM on that one !
