I have been wondering, for 15 years now, why wasn't Spice Girls' "Spice Up Your Life" played on CT40 in 1997? I know it made Rick Dees' WT40, I heard it debut at #40 one week on Rick Dees' countdown, and it was a massive hit in many different countries, but it was never heard on CT40.
The question is, why didn't it enter CT40? Did it have to do with using a different chart format than Rick Dees did and not being released as a commercial single in the US? Or was it due to other criteria that we don't even know about?

I think this has been addressed before, but "Spice Up Your Life" only peaked at #41 on the Radio & Records chart. wweb.uta.edu/faculty/gghunt/charts/spicegirls.htmlSince Casey straightforwardly counted down the R&R chart (Rick had probably developed his own chart/tabulation system by then), that's why it never made CT40.

His chart/tabulation system was borrowing the old Jokers Wild set and spinning.

Ironically, Rick Dees' chart, wild as it can be, is fresher than the current AT40 chart.

Ironically, Rick Dees' chart, wild as it can be, is fresher than the current AT40 chart. I *think* it's based on show affiliates now and since that affiliate base doesn't consist of a lot of CC owned stations being dictated what to play, that could have a lot to do with it.
